#10129: can\'t run sauerbraten on XP laptop |
by JEFF_K
on 02/20/2008 19:01
|
|
I have been unable to run Sauerbraten on my laptop.
The start up page loads (just like on the original cube) and I am just able to fire the pistol once and right afterwards, the program shuts down stating:
Runtime error; abnormal program termination.
On the terminal that comes up showing (C:\\windows\\system 32\\cmd.exe)as the directory, I notice among the processes going on in the terminal, there are 6 \"WARNINGS\" underneath:
-No vertex buffer object extension.
-No occlusion query support
-No shader support
-Using NVIDIA texgen bug workaround
-No frame buffer object support
-Non-power-of-two tetxtures not supported.
Now, I am not a programmer, just more of a hobbyist and amateur gamer - I used to use MSDOS 20 years ago, but looking at others comments, I am way behind the knowledge level of most of you.
Any ideas or ways to adjust the settings (for a layman like me) so that the game will work?

#10130: Glibc? |

Somehow Cube isn't working for me. I am on Arch, My system is fresh. I installed Cube, but it seemed to need glibc.so.5, while I had glibc.so.6.0.9! I tried symlinking, but Cube was smarter than me... Should I wait for a newer version?

Hello guys!
Cube runs nice and the graphics are great too, but: The font in the menu is blurry! I just can\\\'t read a thing.
I thought I had installed every package needed, but please come up with suggestions on how to fix this nevertheless!
I am using Ubuntu on a brand new Laptop capable of running most current games (in theory ;) )

Indeed - bilinear filtering and fonts do not mix. I'm assuming this is the basic problem, as it appears to be the familiar effect.

#10133: Scroll Wheel Problem |
by Nytmayre
on 02/21/2008 22:36

Hi, I am new to Cube 2 and these forums (hello), and I have started getting to grips with the game engine and the level editor today. I have seen the Youtube tutorial videos and messed around in the map editor, but I have stumbled upon an apparent problem.
For some reason, on menus, and in the editor (for example, when adding or deleting cubes using the scroll wheel), I find that I am fine scrolling forwards (to delete cubes or move forward when choosing a texture), but when I try to scroll back (to add a cube or raise the floor) it simply will not work. I have checked my mouse and there are no problems there, so I think there may be something wrong somewhere else.
Has anyone else experienced this problem and how can I solve it?
I am running Sauerbraten within the specifications on Windows Xp.
Thanks in advance,
Nytmayre

Thank you very much for this suggestion, but I could not find any option in the *.cfg-Files or the wiki :(
Sadly, I can't force ubuntu to use certain filtering methodes.
I don't use managers like compiz or beryl if that is of any use.
Is there a possibility to change the filter-behavior via xorg.conf?

check the exisiting cfg's for examples on anything you would like to do in your own maps ... the documentation explains a lot too ... see README.html in your installation-folder ... then there's the wiki http://cube.wikispaces.com and of course always the search function on this forum.
MovingTarget's example is for in-game use, in the map's CFG you can/should omit the leading "/" :)

#10138: How do I change the settings on Assault Cube? |
by Mac987
on 02/24/2008 23:54
|
|
I just downloaded Assault Cube and the game has a horrible frame rate on my computer which makes it impossible to play. I a 900MHz celeron with 128MB or ram and a Intel(R)82810 Graphics Controller. I know that it sounds bad but I am pretty sure I can run the game. Why do I get such a low frame rate and what can I do to fix it. Also, how do I get into the settings?
Thanks.

Make sure you have opengl-drivers installed for your chipset.

MMM 8210 chip is low end update your drivers I am not sure how well cube 1x runs on the older Intel chips I would Expect fps in the range of 20-35 at 800x600 with that chip
I had a intel I810 once not a very good GPU for any kind of gameing :(
If you have a little $$ and really wanna play
you can pick up a 5XXX pci card for under 30 online I have also seen a 6200 that was PCI
at my local geek shop but a 5XXX would be your best bet due to the low endness of your system

The list above is incomplete. For an aid to creating particles, you might try this: http://www.quadropolis.us/node/1005

I doubt there will be another release of Cube 1.
Check the packages list for your distro and check if you can find glibc5. You can have both glibc 5 and 6 installed at the same time. You might have to add other sources for older packages, though I have never used Arch, so I wouldn't know which ones.
Another option is to compile Cube 1 yourself, Last time I tried, it compiled just fine with glibc6.

#10148: Assault Cube: turn off Antialiasing & Anisotropic Filtering? |
by Mac987
on 02/25/2008 22:43
|
|
I updated my drivers & Assault Cube usually runs fine. Sometimes it does get a little laggy, so I read the ReadMe and it said to turn off Antialiasing and Anisotropic Filtering. How do I do this in Windows XP Professional Edition?
Thanks.
