Bug Reports

by eihrul on 09/03/2008 01:41, 1175 messages, last message: 12/31/2023 08:39, 924541 views, last view: 05/03/2024 08:02

Please post your bug reports in here.

With your bug report, please submit the following information:

1) OS: Your operating system, i.e. Linux, Windows, or otherwise and what version you are using.

2) 3D card: The 3D card you are using. If you do not know, this is printed on the "Renderer:" line in the console when Sauerbraten starts up.

3) The edition of Sauerbraten you are using, i.e. Assassin edition, CVS as of a particular date, or otherwise.

4) Error information: If you are on Windows, a pop-up message showing filenames and line numbers should show up when Sauerbraten crashes; if possible, post a screenshot or a copy/paste of this. If on Linux, post a log of the startup info from the console, including relevant errors or any info you might have discovered. If on MacOS X, please post the crash log if applicable.

5) A description of the problem and how to reproduce it. Please give as much detail as possible on how someone can recreate the problem, in as certain terms as you can. If someone else can't reproduce the problem, it is unlikely he can fix it or tell you what is wrong.

#268: Gamma Problem

by JD on 06/17/2009 07:02

OS: Windows XP SP3
3D Card: Nvidia 9600GT with v186.08 drivers
Build: latest in SVN right before I posted this.

Problem: The gamma is not being set in the game, and the error message of \"Could not set gamma (card/driver doesn\'t support it?)\" is returned followed by the sdl error \"Ramp Manipulation Not Supported\".

I have read online that the method you are using to set the gamma, SDL_SetGamma(), doesn\'t work with some Nvidia cards like mine. Please use an alternative method to set the gamma if SDL_SetGamma() gamma returns -1 because the game is too dark for me with the default value.

sounds like either a windows problem or a driver problem

I have the exact same GPU, and no such problems exist here (mind you, I don't use windows either)

you should probably check if the nvidia forums have any mention of similar problems on windows systems

\"sounds like either a windows problem or a driver problem\"

That could very well be, but it is also irrelevant because Cube could be written with an alternative or fallback method to set the gamma as other games have done. From what I have read online by other game developers, SDL_SetGamma() is simply a poor way to do it when it comes to compatibility because some video cards don\'t support hardware gamma setting. That is why fallback methods are implemented too if SDL_SetGamma() is still used.

One short term solution: there should be some button on your monitor to adjust gamma/contrast/brightness...

"there should be some button on your monitor to adjust gamma/contrast/brightness..."

The brightness of my monitor is set fine. Only Cube is too dark. My other games (which have working gamma controls), applications, and Windows desktop are fine. Having to adjust my monitor for one game and then to readjust it when exiting would be a pain even if it did work to brighten the game which it doesn't as my monitor's brightness is already near its 100% setting.

The only real viable solution is to have a working gamma control in Cube. I doubt I am the only one afflicted with this problem even if it goes unreported in this forum.

OS: Mac OS 10.5.7
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 9600

There was only one line that wasn't normal for starting up the game:

18/06/09 2:32:40 PM [0x0-0xda0da].com.dot3labs.sauerbraten warning: ent outside of world: enttype[particles] index 64 (695.966492, -8.000000, 470.537170)

Description:

I was trying to edit a map I've been working on for the last few days. Now, no matter what I select, if its a corner, or a cube, the game deforms a certain corner of every selected cube.

"no matter what I select, if its a corner, or a cube, the game deforms a certain corner of every selected cube."

Could you provide before&after screenshots so we can tell exactly what you mean?

It may also be useful to provide your map so we can then try to replicate this...

It seems to have been fixed on its own now.

Thanks anyway.

#280: Compiling The Source

by Chod on 06/19/2009 18:03

Hi,

After compiling a fresh copy of the source code - unmodified, i get some errors when loading a map. I can run the stacktrace, which ends up at the function execute()

Could somebody please help me out with this, looks like a nice game to mod.

Regards

Nobody can really help you without knowing anything about your problem. Please read the topic text for the correct way to report bugs.

#283: Disappearing map

by Garak on 06/20/2009 23:26

1: Mac OS X 10.4.11 (on a Powermac G5)
2: Nvidia GeForce 6800 GT
3: Trooper Edition (with 6/19 patch)

4: I don't see any error messages or anything like that.

5. Random parts of the map disappear while playing.
Here's a screenshot of what it looks like:
http://i42.tinypic.com/2417dw3.jpg
It makes it rather difficult to see where I'm going on the map.

Try typing "/oqfrags 0" in the Sauer console and see if that helps. If it does, you can put the "oqfrags 0" command in your autoexec.cfg.

Thanks! That worked! Nothing is disappearing now.

Another bug I forgot to mention in my original post: The animations don\'t seem to be properly working. For instance, Mr. Fixit doesn\'t seem to move in the 3rd person view (picture from before the disappearing map problem was fixed): http://i39.tinypic.com/1zn9xqc.jpg

In the first person view (for all character choices), sometimes things look like this: http://i41.tinypic.com/2dwb32e.jpg
