Note: this is just preliminary. I haven't even added in real distortion or refraction yet. Still looks pretty, but will be way prettier by release.

#2: ripples

by MeatROme on 09/03/2006 13:11

The ogro stumbled through the mirky light of the forest,
he reached an opening in the trees and stepped out onto an outcrop overhanging a beatiful lake, warming in the sun.

He kneels and watches his reflection on the water ...
... hours later he is still transfixed by the ripples his dripping saliva make on the waters surface.

Those effects are surely minimalistic, they will speed up performance on newer cards :))

im impressed! :) my only crit.. is that the reflection is being distorted by the choppy water subdivision waves. thats easily fixed by less wave height

Sure you compiled the sources from CVS? I dont think theres a w32 binary for it yet, I compiled it last night and it worked fine on my 7800GT.

Max: eihrul pointed out to me that it would be bad performance wise for it to reflect item models, map models, player models etc.. so probably no.

Wow.

Thats, really, awesome.

P.S.: If its not too hard to code
model reflection etc. then do it.
As long as its optional (disableable)
its no problem for low-end machines.

Very nice!

How about adding sorting/clipping support for water that can see into other water? Like in my little RPG castle and cave map where you can walk behind the waterfall and see through it and the water below it? :)

Any word on this being configurable at all? Will we be able to turn off certain features/effects, or is it all or nothing? Or is it all or don't play? :P

Got a 6600GT. Its supported here
(with biiig FPS - no performance hit).

I just saw models reflected - player
too - in the current CVS Version.
Meeping Cool.
