Help! Very slow performance in Sauerbraten!

My low end specs:
P4 2.8GHZ 800MHZ HT
ASUS P4P800-X AGP
1GB DDR400 Dual channel
SB Audigy 2
Maxtor 400GB SATA HDD
Windows XP SP2

ATI RADEON X1600 PRO 512MB...<Sucky hardware>

Game: Sauerbraten
I am getting like, 5-10 FPS in the game at 640x480 mode! This problem occurs in games like Half-life 1 too! Tried reinstalling Windows,VGA drivers but it still doesn\'t resolve. Is my PC too slow for 3D games? Any resoultion other than buying a new vid card? I just upgraded the X1600 from a TI4200... But all my games became more slower!!

VGA drivers aye?
What version are you running (your not running the default Windows ones are you?)

I am using the latest ATI 6.5 Drivers from www.ati.com.

Tried running the game using windows vga drivers too but still the same performance. I wondered did I accidentally downgraded my vid card...

6.5 is *not* the latest.

Remove your old drivers, reboot, and then install this.
