Hosting a server

Yeah i know this shouldn't be in the normal forums, but i've been having trouble with this all day. Every time i try to run sauerbraten server, it says the server was not registered because it did not respond to ping. Am i supposed to host a server some other way? And please, dont tell me to read the docs, ive been through those a hundred times and they dont tell a thing.

When i fire up saurbraten and go to the server tab and click run it gives me the same message. Im in the dark here too.

if you are behind a firewall / router you have to do some configuration (opening ports or doing port forwards)

i'm pretty sure thats explained in the docs

Open ports (in the docs) :)

The docs have everything, if you can't host after reading the docs, read them again. Then again. Then again.

But in the meantime (if you're a slow reader) and you've opened ports, and you've configured your computer's firewall (allowing the master server, some firewalls need that to be done, like ZoneAlarm).

It could just be your router, my old one woulden't let me host. Get a business class one.

Has anyone found out yet, what to do in order to get the server going. I cant get response from masterserver, although i´ve opend ports. i even turned off the firewall. it just did not work. What can i do now ? Has anyone an idea how to get the server run ?
