coop editing

i just wanted to say how cool it is to cooperatively edit maps with people. i was doing it tonight and there were no bullies that had the kick over your sandcastle mentality. there were a couple jerks and there were kicked quickly. also once we were done with our bases the master person changed the mode to default and we battled. it's a freaking brave new world of internet gaming an i embrace it.
woohoo. that is all.

It is great, but it'd be nice if the whole process of /getmap & /sendmap were better automated. Some people turn up wondering wth is going on, and the others aren't up to date on recent edits and not aware they need to /getmap.

The server will need to have the content of the map loaded to do that but it will be nice.

That's true that waiting for someone to /sendmap and then do a /getmap each time you disconnect from the server (Network errors being a problematic cause) is problematic (And you could loose synch if the person that /sendmap hadn't all the bits because he have done a /getmap on connection without asking for a /sendmap)

Anyway editing maps with other ppl and being able to save them is nice.

#3: scratch the suface

by larken on 06/20/2006 03:21

we have only scratch the tip of the iceberg with gameplay ideas.
imagine building defensive positions into
an area where someone sharing you map
couldn't go. like a simpler larger edit
mode restriction map whos boundaries dissappear when you change modes. you
could have ten minutes to construct a
base and then 20 or so to fight it out
with the other people on the map.

another idea i had was for a "game master"
setup. where you can send moneters after the players and change the geometry of the map in a more limited way than the edit mode.

just throwing out ideas.

nice idea, but you can't edit a map while people are playing it, wierd things happen with the lightmaps...
