New Music for Aard/Sauerbraten

by marcpullen on 06/18/2006 21:39, 27 messages, last message: 06/29/2006 01:10, 9899 views, last view: 05/14/2024 09:17

I'm almost done with a new set of songs for next months album, and I'd like to donate them for use with Sauerbraten like the other 15 tracks I did not too long ago.

The new ones are faster paced and a good bit meaner. Loosely based on St. Anger by Metallica, but less "bad", and I used a real snare drum instead of a trashcan lid. Otherwise, I did less solos, and focused mostly on quality pounding, rocking/headbanging type rhythms, and I'm using a new bass module for my preamp that sounds HUGE.

These would be perfect for DM games.

I'd like to do two versions, one just for Sauerbraten which would be shorter (no repeats of sections) and hence smaller download size, and the full MP3 version that I'll release on my site, which will just be repeated sections.

The Sauer versions are about 2-3 minutes each, and the full versions will be from 5-7 minutes each.

Wootage !

I preferred the Cube songs to their Sauer counterparts , but I'm curious to hear some that would be even faster and "meaner"...

It will be optional or it will "delete" the olders musics in the nexts releases ?

Ah, Fanatic, i've lost the adress of your website, and Google can't help me. :D thanks.

I set it up so Aard can drop it into the Fanatic folder and will be numbered from 16-23.ogg (so it won't overwrite the other 15 ogg's there already).

I'll leave it up to him on adding them to the song rotation tho.

It's not online for the general public yet. :)

I'm giving an early release just for Sauerbraten (the shorter song versions) to Aard that he can include at any time. The full album will be done before the end of next month on my site.

How about using XM or IT Modules instead of Ogg-Vorbis. This would have the advantage, that the soundfx like speed, timing, expression can be easily adapted to the current game play (like in Unreal) and also it would result in smaller file size.

I don't do MIDI/XM/IT type music anymore, all live guitars.

The files as OGGs are tiny anyway, not much benefit to changing them to something more difficult to work with just to save a little space.

Ok understandable, but modules like XM or IT are more flexible. Especially for the single player of the RPG it can be adapted to the actual situation in the game, e.g. backgroundmusic is playing and as soon as the player ist starting fighting the rhythm (bmp) of the background music will be increased. This ist possible with tracked music. And you can also record your guitar riffs and use it as instruments.

Is it just my imagination or do the new tunes play at a lower volume than your older ones? The old ones sound much louder for the same musicvol settings.

The soundvol is too quiet in general. Other programs tend to drown out sauer.

mdkuser___:

I just don't do tracked music, it's not fun for me and doesn't sound good. Personal preference.

eihrul:

I mixed it differently, so they are a little quiter than the previous album. The new tracks are more bottom heavy, different guitar mix, so I had to balance it different.

Tracker music and guitars just donĀ“t mix well.

Well, I meant using _both_ tracked music and guitars - not using tracked guitars.
