I'm suprised no-one has made this topic yet, its good for forums to have off-topic subjects to loosen the mood.

Well anyway post anything about the FIFA World Cup here.

#1: Australia VS Brazil

by Passa on 06/18/2006 10:14

Tonight is the big game, Australia and Brazil. I think we stand somewhat of a chance, as long as we play smart. Ronaldo is unfit and weak, but Ronaldinho is scarily good. What do you guys think of Australia's chances?

And also, that Italy and USA game, two red cards for the USA apparently. Is it just me or are the referees in the World Cup very strict?

I watched the game - the first red card was the worst example of a make-up call - it was just a slightly late slide tackle that still hit the ball, a yellow card situation at worst. The referree only called a red card to make up for the red card he had legitimately given to Italy earlier for an intentional elbow to the face.

Australia just lost 2 - 0 to Brazil. We played so well as well. Although I thought it was a bad idea to put Kewell on at the end rather than the start. And god that ref was messed, Brazil are all pansies, cant take it when you tap them on the shoulder.

Well as long as we beat Croatia (all their players are Australian, they went through our institute of sport with Australian tax payers money) we can make it through to the next round.

Have to agree Australia played a solid game. And Brazil didn´t play like they used to. Too bad, it could have been a 1:1 as well. Wich would have helped everyone (demoralized brasil heh)..

At first I though someone was trying to make a soccer mod, and I got this image of ogros running around kicking a minature hellpig around and fending each other off with rockets. That could be a lot of fun :)

I have a friend that has already started complaining to me about last night's game. *sigh* I wish i was half as dedicated to _anything_ as he is to soccer, the man is crazy.

I bought the 2006 Fifa World Cup PC game today. It was worthless shit. It didn't even have Australia. What world cup game includes Latvia along with Israel but not Australia, who are actually IN the world cup?

Croatia is a bullshit team. All their players are Australian. They even went through the Australian Institute of Sport with OUR taxes.

And I think Croatians are brainwashed, all the Croatians at my school go for Croatia over Australia, freakin traitors.

Fine, I'm just pissed after being threatened to be bashed if Australia wins lol, maybe its just my school :)

But anyway, its true about the Croatian team having Australian players, just not fair :P

Well we drew 2 - 2 with Croatia, as you all probably know.

Good game, Croatia scored in the first 2 minutes, I was like really worried then. Then Craig Moore scored off the penalty in the 38th? minute, then stupid Kalac, our replacement goalie for Schwarzer, made us concede that soft goal. He had fumbled a corner only a few minutes earlier. Apparently they only got him for that game because he could speak Croatian and find out what the Croatians were doing.

And how about Kewell's goal?! I swear, the whole country here is talking about how fantastic it was, and how much Kewell deserved that goal. I think it meant alot to him, it must have hurt him that he had never scored a World Cup goal. And did you see his celebration? It was a very good goal anyway, Breciano lobbed it into the box, Aloisi headed it straight into the path of Kewell who just belted it in :)

AND HOW ABOUT THAT FINISH EH? First Croatia got a player sent off, then Emerton got a second yellow for an 'intentional' handball, and if you look at the replays it was hardly intentional, that ref was shit, did you see the Croatian handballs in the box? Look it up on YouTube and you will find footage of Croatia actually getting rid of the ball in the box with their hands.

And to top it off, a world record for the most cards to one player in one game. Simunic, of Croatia, who recieved three yellow cards and a red card. Great reffing.. then Aloisi's would be goal at the end, dissalowed because Mr Three Yellow Cards was interfered with.

Anyway, good game, but because of penalties not given, and a stupid goalie, the game was 2 - 2. In reality Australia dominated Croatia and if we had been awarded the penalties from their foul play we would have won 8 - 1.

And now we have to beat Italy on Tuesday morning.. 12:30AM to be precise. And while I am technically of Italian heritage I dislike the whole team as much as Croatia because they stole an Australian as well *cough*Christian Vieri*cough*.

Haha, well gratz to Australia, but passa, really: Football is always bout a little luck. Referee´s can be good or not so good, sometimes that decides a game, but most of the time, the best still wins. And Autralia did win this one (since they´re in the next round).

Plus, just get over it: Football has become more international. Italy or croatia didn´t steal any of "your" guys. It was their own decision to play for those teams. :)

What wins the cup these days isn´t so much based on nationality of the players anymore . Deciding factors are the team spirit, the coach, and the mindset of the fans and players.

BTW: \o/ for germany :P Forward pwnage, though they took it too easy in the 2nd half, sweden got much better after the red card. But this time, the team is one, better than last wc, where they only got that far because Kahn was teh pwn.

Really hope France will let Zidane play the next match and give him a chance to end his carrer like he deserves it (win or loss, but an honorable one, not like the game before (that coach is an asshole imho).

\o/ for swiss as well, they deserve it, playing really fine atm.

Did anyone see the Australia Italy match? Yeah well I think we didnt deserve to win, but italy didnt at all. And totti is a dickhead, along with the ref. And the Italian team was disgracefully cheap. I now officially disown Italy -.-

I thought Brazil were average against Ghana. And no offense to them but all they have is nice ball skills and a good shot. They struggled against Australia, and had problems with Croatia. I think they will be beaten by France in the next round. If France does not knock them out then Argentina will.
