AMD64 Binaries w/ Multiplayer

by Stern on 06/08/2006 21:43, 12 messages, last message: 06/10/2006 13:00, 1071 views, last view: 04/24/2024 15:56

I've compiled AMD64 binaries of Cube2 for my own personal use, and realized that there's no multiplayer because of the cheat protection stuff. This is aimed more at the developers of this great game. Could you maybe send me an email about how I could compile this with multiplayer capabilities? I'd really like to play this multiplayer, but I can't figure out how to get around the "anti-compile-yourself" protection.

Anyone else want AMD64 binaries?

This seems to be a common mistunderstanding. The ONLY anti-cheat protection in sauerbraten is the mastermode. There is no reason that your sauerbraten build would not work online, if it fails to, this should be treated as a bug.

It's just that I read in a post in a different thread that compiling your own binaries from source breaks the multiplayer. Dunno if that's right, but that's what is happening.

own cube binary: won´t work.
own cube2 Sauerbraten binary: works.

Hmmm. Dunno why it's not working. I compiled and installed enet. Any other dependencies for the network stuff? Any compiled files need to be copied from the source dir to other places?

nope, there are no special requirements for compiling on any platforms. Either there is a 64bit incompatability issue which we haven't fixed yet, or you somehow compiled it wrong.

What error exactly are you getting when connecting? Are you sure its not your firewall?

Beyond that, only someone who knows how to use a debugger can figure it out :)

It runs fine in singleplayer and whatnot. I'm just talking about multiplayer. I know that you don't want to give out the real source, but I'm not going to hack it or anything (I would have already gotten it working then lol). Maybe I could compile an AMD64 official binary for you? I just want to get multiplayer without having to install it on Windows (which I hardly use anymore). There's no connection error, it just says "connecting to server..." or something a couple of times then restarts the map that I'm playing (in SP).

There's no hidden source. You've got everythng we've got.

It's just likely an incompatability, which we have no ability to confirm or debug because we have no AMD64 machine to test on.

Is AMD64 pretty much just 64bit mode? So Sauerbraten compiled for 64bit?

just before it restarts the map it will give an error... look for it in the console

Yeah, when I say AMD64 I mean a binary compiled to run on a 64-bit AMD processor. I'll check the console for the error.

Well, I took a look at the console and the only "error" message it gave after not being able to connect was "could not connect to server". Not very helpful... So there's nothing about the source distributed with the binaries that is preventing me from playing online? Internet works fine for me, and I've compiled SDL, enet, and whatnot without any error. Any other ideas?

Could you confirm that the 32 bit version works?
