for realistic weaponry,(just in appearence), try counter-strike source. if you cant afford it try americas army, which is free.
this game is similar to quake, or unreal tournament, more than it is to a realistic shooter.
oh if you want WWII, call of duty 2 is much recommended, again if you cant afford it, get wolfstein enemy territory, which is free.

If you want real guns then join the army - this is a _game_
If anything I would vote for making things less real, i.e. cartoon characters, road-runner physics, maybe bring back the doom 'chicken launcher' mod...

Call of Duty is a Quake 3 based game. There are many games out there based on certain stock engines that by themselves are just kiddie spaz attack games.
Has anyone built a more serious shooter with this engine yet? I would really be interested in something like that too.

"kiddie spaz attack games"?
"more serious shooter with this engine yet?"
I don't think anyone will be creating a realistic combat mod or a World War II mod for a while.

And even if they did, ET would still be more popular.

"And even if they did, ET would still be more popular."
Or Day of Defeat.
Or Call of Duty.
Or Medal of Honor.
Or Red Orchestra.
Or any of the sequels for all these products (Medal of Honor Breakthrough, Call of Duty 2, Day of Defeat: Source.. etc etc)

My favorite is still Razor Unit... I've actually thought about recreating some of the maps within Sauer. It is just such a good war sim. The deathmatch is especially my fave.

It´s most unlikely a realistic wwwhatever game will be done any time soon. Something unrealistic.. maybe.
It would be a lot of work to mod sauer to suit realistic simulation-style fps. Other engines offer a far better framework for that (physics, hitboxes, crouch, prone, cone fire etc etc.) On sauer you´d have to reinvent several wheels that other engines already offer.

Not everything can be included in the default Sauer distribution, but there's nothing stopping anybody creating good mods for it.
Want WWII weaponary and player models? What are you waiting for? Get started! There'll be plenty of freely available models on the net that you can use to fast track any such mod. Then it's just a matter of doing some mapping.
A motivated person could create a prototype WWII sauer mod in a couple of weeks. Who knows where it'd go from there... it could be the next Counter Strike.

ick...this "game theme" has been run into the ground by commercial games already. I'm sick of seeing ww2 games.

there are relatively few games where the player gets to be an Axis soldier. So that angle could be fresher.

"there are relatively few games where the player gets to be an Axis soldier. So that angle could be fresher."
All WWII games let you be an Axis soldier. Not ever in single player but always in multiplayer (look at COD for an example).
makkE, you might be able to play as Axis in a new WWII game thats coming out soon :)
Its called Company of Heroes. Everyone groans, another X of Y style title.. omfg so cliche, the good thing is, the graphics are on par with CoD2, the main difference is its a Real Time Strategy :)

This one I am definently buying :)

I'm tired of 'real' war games. If 'real' war is so much fun why don't these people join the army? The answer is because it's not fun - it's really pretty horrible. Fragging people in a fantasy/sci-fi setting is glorified tag and as such is a good, abstract way to interact with people. This is why I like Sauer so much they way it is. It's nice, fast and simple. Why do people want to come along (not just with this game) and change things so that it's the same as a whole raft of other games out there?
BTW: How come you don't here people on CS forums saying "Why can't we make it less realistic and fast?" Sorry, rant over! :)
