Add-on Mod Solution

Ok, while alotta people will blame most of the recent aguing over copyright stuff on me *coughTENTUScough* another solution is a tutorial on how to mod the source code so that you can point to your own config files and models etc.

An example of this is my Paradox Test 0.2 Mod..

It can be installed easily then uninstalled just as easily without corrupting Sauerbraten files. If modders adopted this system it would make life ALOT easier.

What do you guys think?

I think you should release your mod in a format everyone can open :-)

I dont understand...
do you mean a zip file as well? unfortunately I can only compile for windows, so if you are using windows, then the install shield should work

for linuxers i will post the source code, so they can compile and so people can see the MINOR changes needed to make a working addon mod ;-)

it doesnt work

it says it's had an error and needs to close.. it does this in the dos prompt:

init: sdl
init: enet
init: video: sdl
init: video: mode

and then says its encountered a problem and closes

cc machine, what was the problem? cos i get the error randomly now.. and i think it has something to do with pconfig.cfg.

i forgot to unzip it into the sauerbraten folder lol and it wouldnt work at all

but i have noticed it randomly crashes.. which is wierd

hmm same thing is happening to me strangely.. could some code expert please have a look at my source code (which is on the site) and tell me what is causing the crashes?

Ok I did some checking up on that crash problem and it seems to not happen if the game is launched in fixed function fall back mode. So I think its something with the new models in the mod and the shaders not liking them.

So I am kindly asking a model expert to have a look at the models to see what is wrong with them that could be causing them to make Sauer crash.

How were those models created?
To make sure they are 100% correct md2´s, import and re-export with q2modeller, or re-export the original files with ms3d.

I didn't make them, I mean come on! Do I look like a talented computer modeller to you? Nah I just asked permission of IoN-PuLsE to use the models from his 007-time goes backwards quake 2 mod.

i tweaked most of them in misfit modeler and then resaved them. I think its the pistol model, that one was tweaked heaps

There´s the problem. Misfit modeller will not produce proper md2´s.
Open them in q2modeller, and reexport them. Don´t use ms3d in this case, it can´t import animations.

Note that q2modeller will fix em. You don´t need to modify the original file all over again in q2modeller.
