About the shaders...

While the shaders are very nice, it made some things actuly look unrealisic. For instance, the hands in the view models have that plastic gleam on them, making them look like they are made out of plastic.

first off, why did you make a new thread for this? you should have just posted in the thread for the new release of sauerbraten

unrealistic? since when did sauerbraten make the move to realistic? its not counter strike.. yes there is a gleam on the hand, but the shaders dont know what is the hand and what is the gun.

I know its not aiming to be ultra realistic, but Im just saying I think it still should at least not make living mkaterial look like plastic, and yes, I should have posted in the suggestions thread. Sorry about that.

Keep in mind, the shader system was just added for this release...it's not complete, and adjustments are going to happen. At the moment, all the defaults are being used for most of the shader features, the main thing wrong is the specular. Every model in the game is simply too shiny, I know for certain this will be different in the next release....give these guys some time :)

This shader system is no simple system...it's a quite advanced form of vertex and pixel shader programs, in the format of GL standards...basically, it's GPU programming like you see in the newer commercial games.

IMHO, the shaders are one of the larger steps forward for Sauerbraten...I'm quite excited about having it. I think this'll turn some attention to Sauerbraten, once the mappers really get to put the shaders to work. This stuff is very powerfull. :)
