Command Bind Tool

by RiptoR on 03/27/2006 18:27, 11 messages, last message: 04/08/2006 19:44, 1397 views, last view: 04/25/2024 11:24

Hi,

I'm a fan of the cube/sauer engines, and I like to program little tools from time to time in my spare time.

I was wondering if there would be a general interest in a bind tool, a tool to make changing options of binding keys much easier than the manual adjustment of config files. If so, I would start a small project in C#.

It would be for windows only at the moment (although the .NET framework is being ported to linux).

Any comments or suggestions are welcome.

1. At least look at GTK#(http://gtk-sharp.sourceforge.net/) instead of system.windows.forms, since that would make it run on linux right now.
2. A nice feature would be the ability to add definitions for extra mouse buttons, e.g. I have mx510, which has 10 buttons. Using these buttons currently requires some slightly arcane edits, so it would be nice to make this more n00b friendly.

Already been looking at it. That or Glade would be perfect to make it multiplatform.

I have a couple ideas for the "special" functions you mentioned too.

Cool, look foward to trying it out. Let me know if you need anything written.

I've decided to go for a GTK# UI, powered by Mono. When Mono gets decent windows.forms support, I might switch over to that again to ensure the easiest solution to end users.

I'm still in a planning fase, writing down how and what functionality I want to put in it. Slow progress atm though, reallife tends to block most efforts :p

Ewww. GTK is an abortion. wxWindows will make your life easier.

Yes, but GTK is the best-supported cross-platform dotnet GUI toolkit - it is effectively the "official" GUI toolkit of Mono. So if you want to pick the "standard" one, that's it.

How about an online tool that outputs a custom config-file for Cube/Sauer? Can't get more cross-platform then that...

q: mono?
a: http://wxnet.sourceforge.net/

GTK will always look ugly outside of gnome because it wasn't designed to respect the native style. The windows install of gtk apps can be cumbersome. Windows compiling of GTK apps is no small feat.

WX is just more native and easier to use. And that's really the point, to get RiptoR going with an easy start.

I'll try out both GUI toolkits, see which one will be the best solution for this.
