Team Fortress mod for Sauerbraten?

by MonkeyMachGun on 03/15/2006 01:56, 10 messages, last message: 03/24/2006 04:47, 1466 views, last view: 05/04/2024 08:02

Hello everybody, I just want to say first off that Sauerbraten is a very good idea. Now, onto my idea.

I think that a Team Fortress mod for Sauerbraten would be a very good idea, and would help spread the game, as Valve does not seem to care about it. I myself can do a bit of modeling with Blender, but nothing spectacular. It would also add a lot of team play variety to Sauerbraten, and would be fun and again help spread Team Fortress a bit.

As for legal issues, I don't think there will be any problems, as there have been Team Fortress mods made for many games including Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament 2004.

So... good idea or bad?

I am a major fan of team fortress, specifically ETF (www.etfgame.com)... which unfortunately does not work on Mac, so I can't use it except in very rare circumstances.

Therefore I would be very, very pleased if Sauerbraten had a team fortress mod.

I would suggest having more weapons, adding classes, CTF, enforced teams (only 2 or 4 possible), perhaps grenades or other special weapons, etc.

If someone does do it, use old Quake like models, :P

geez just realised that post was a minute ago!

anyway, let me elaborate..

makkE is right.. the chances are 0.. you need a team of coders, modellers, mappers, texturers etc and THEN you might stand a chance.

I'm really glad some people liek the idea!

I can map, and actuly do a bit of modeling its coder we really need, and some modelers and texture artists would be nice too. (By the way, I am the same person as monkeymachgun)

It would be hard to do without some more advancements in Sauer. Objective-based teamplay was just implemented. Multiplayer non-player-characters don't exist yet (turrets). Grenades are brand new. In-game GUIs are still minimal too. There's a lot to be done with Sauer before a proper TF game would be doable.

My only request is this: don't make it another silly slavish remake of Team Fortress. Too many team fortress mods include all the bad ideas like complex keybinds, afterthoughish grenades, and excessive menus.
