my screen freezes and my sound stutters by clicking "quit"

Hey guys, I've got a really serious problem and I am asking someone for help!

I start Sauerbraten and play it with a high fps-rate (about 90). Mostly while gaming but at the latest when i press "quit" to exit the game, at once my screen freezes and the sound stutters.

GraphicCard: Sapphire ATI RAdeon 9800 Pro
CPU: AMD XP 300+ with barton core
and Windows 2k running.
I've got the latest of all of my drivers and the latest Windows-Updates.

I please someone to help me!!!
(but don't advice me to install WinXP)

hmm, sauerbraten is are more secure under xp.

nah, but wat resolution do you play at, what version drivers do you have and how much ram do you have. for me sauerbraten was way faster after i installed xp so i think that could be one problem. also only 90fps? my friend has a 9600XT and he gets way higher fps.

this might not help... but is an idea...

My sauerbraten Autoexec.cfg file i have modifyed so i have a Quit hotkey...

I assigned to F1 like this:

bind "F1" [quit]

Sauerbraten does not install a Autoexec.cfg by default...

Just open a text editor, type
bind "F1" [quit]
and save as "autoexec.cfg"

place it in your Sauerbraten\Sauerbraten folder...

when you run sauer now F1 will quit...

like I sayed before, it probably wont help, but it is worth a try if nothing else works for you.

There is also some way to get a CVS version of sauer... perhaps they have addressed this problem already.

Umm

Another alternitive is a Kill application to end sauerbraten...

in Linux we have one called Xkill...

In windows we have the (lame)task manager...

Press alt-tab to break out of sauerbraten, then quickly press Cuntrol-alt-del..
when the task manager appers, click the process tab and hilight sauerbraten.exe...then click endtask

If you are running in full screen mode this will not work verry well for you and will probably crash your system when you attempt the task switch.

to start your sauerbraten in a window,

go to you sauerbraten/sauerbraten folder, and edit the sauerbraten.bat

The switch is -t to make it windowed mode...

here is mine just as a example...
bin\sauerbraten.exe -t -w800 -h600 %1 %2 %3 %4 %5


w800 is the screen width.. and h600 is the height..
be sure to use valid screen resolutions, or it will crash.

like 640x480 800x600 1024x768 or 1280x1024(LCD)

perhaps in windowed mode it wont lock up on you... and if it does it may be easyer to escape from with alt-tab or control-alt-del.
