Can I export the game?

by Zer0bytecode on 02/07/2006 03:47, 25 messages, last message: 02/18/2006 00:11, 7047 views, last view: 05/18/2024 13:29

Can I make some maps and then make them into a game like, Test.exe so my friends can install and play the maps I made like a game?

You can ask them to install the game and your maps. That way you don't have to go through the trouble pretending you made a game.

I really have to hold back to not flame you cc_machine4, ... but that wouldn't open your eyes anyway.

I guess I'll just go along with whatever your school-mates tend to tell you ;-)

If you mapped some cool stuff :
put it out there (e.g. on your page) -
maybe if there's some content on it -
it won't suck so bad?

heh, my firends wont even download and play the game let alone try a map ive made. all they do is say how 'shit' the graphics and gameplay are whenever they come over and i forcibly show them the game... dunno wat they are talking about, they play CS like all the time and the graphics in that are if anything worse than those in sauerbraten. heh, they wont even try Deus Ex...

Well, cube´s very special in that, either people like it, or they hate it.

Can´t really see the point in your post, meat. All cc was trying to say was his friends are too stupid to download a map, and probably try to double-click the .cgz
At least that´s what I understood.

#6: humble apology

yeah.
sorry about that. I guess I kinda got carried away.
To be sure :
I've lately seen some _very_ helpful posts by cc_machine4 (e.g. the "join multiplayer" walk-through) ... so
please accept my apologies any and all who took offence

just write your friends a list of instructions on how to install and configure the game. showing them your maps is something you can do after they are familiar with the game.

If you can't mod it yourself, and want it to do it for you, then you shouldn't be modding at all. Actually, it's not really modding, but pretending to know what you're doing. Sauer is already a good place to start if you want to make your own little game, and shouldn't need anything to make it more idiot-friendly. Even with the bugs and ongoing revisions and updates, it's easy to mod and expand upon.

just give your friends the game then just modify the autoexec file so it automatically loads your map. and dont say you 'made the game' because thats pretty slack. and also embarrassing when your friends stumble accross the www.cubeengine.com site.

btw, if you are doing a complete conversion of sauer in gameplay and graphics (as in completely new textures models etc) is it still called a 'mod' (which would indicate you need the original game to play) or is it called a 'engine modification' or 'game'?

let me make it clear once more... the SOURCE to sauerbraten is open source, the game as a whole is not. Media that comes with the game is owned by their respective authors.

So there are only two options: You either play the game sauerbraten AS IS, or you create an entirely new "game", using the source, but with your own gameplay and media.

so if i create a 'game thingy' that uses the sauerbraten source code, but has different weapons and different overall gameplay, and it also contains completely new content, i can saftly call it a game? i think the line between 'mod' and 'game' is really fine. was death illustated a mod or a game for example?

An idea just hit me from hearing that... Why not the entire Cube community make a game from scratch? lol I know, alot of you guys would say "Get the hell outta here XD", but you know. lol Doomworld did that with the Community Chest.wad files so I figured.

id help out if there was alot of people who would do the same.

when you say 'game' you mean a conversion of the sauer engine right?

actually, now that i think for a sec... a community created conversion of sauer, thatd be cool, as long as it didnt rely on multiplayer. there are many talented people in the cube community in many departments.

then again alot of people are working on their own stuff.

Would be nice to see a colaboration in 1 single project. The cube engine is still young. Even with it's simple interface it can grow into something large. But that takes people. And I mean more then 10 people.
