PC specs (the "show off your PC" thread)

i was just wondering what PC specs you guys use to play cube. Mine:

CPU: AMD sempron 3400+ @ 2.0 ghz (3.4ghz intel equivalent)
RAM: 1gig
GPU: 256mb nvidia 6600
HDD: 200gb
directX: 9.0c
performance: solid 60fps @ 1024x768 with ocull on
looking at whole of mm5remix : 21fps (read on to see what this means)

please include:
precessor, ram, graphics card (GPU), hard drive, fps/screenres combo you get in cube, your version of directX (or equivalent in other systems)

please DON'T include:
monitor, speakers/surround sound systems, power supply, PC case, keyboards, mice, any other games you have, games controllers, etc

note: to give a true comparison of performance i think looking at the whole of mm5remix map from a corner (move to the corner of the map) (ocull off - type /toggleocull or press f5) in sp mode, fullbright off @ 1024x768, minlod 250 and compare our framerates (should be interesting)

CPU: Pentium 4 3.2 Ghz. (the 541 model with emt64)
RAM: 1GB DDR2
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 6600GT with 77.72 drivers
DirectX: I am using winXP pro sp2 so I have 9.0c

performance: 28fps looking at whole of mm5remix with no occlusion culling and at 1024x768. erm, normally I get an average of 250fps just playing cube at 1280x1024.

i rekon we should include 3dmark scores, its more exact because the fps in cube always jumps around. unless everyone got 'fraps' http://www.fraps.com/. anyway my 3dmark scores are:

3dmark 03: 8673
3dmark 05: 3649

110-200FPS@1024x768 24bbp on mm5remix

Other variables affecting performance:
The the above rates were with the following performance related setting:

Dell:

Some motherboard.
P4 3ghz HT(HT seems to be useless?)
A fan.
A heatsink.
A BIOS battery.
1gb of some kind of RAM in 2 sticks
The DELL thing with the USB ports, sound slot, sound card wire port, to-motherboard port, and a power button port.
An unused power button circut; I boot my PC with a screwdriver.
Belkin WAN PCI card(the one that crashes your computer when you bump into the antenna).
SbLive! Card, 5 speaker ports(3 for speakers, 1 for mic, and some other one)
Nvidia GeForceFX 5200
Onboard Audio(soundmax)
Onboard LAN
A serial and printer port.
6 USB ports.
A loud, useless Dell DVD drive
A quiet HP Cdr drive.
A harddrive, 80gb.
2gb slave.
A floppy drive.
Keyboard, Dell(so there's something wrong with it; and I broke the things that hold it up by bashing it out of anger; pryed the windows and menu keys out because they remind me of Windows, and because they're useless).
Dell flatscreen.
Logitech $50 mouse(I figured I didn't spend enough money).
Dell speaker with bass thingy.
HP PolkAudio(bad name) or something speaker.
Some old speaker.

And I have some more motherboards and stuff lying around(and I run my computer out-of-case, pci bus towards me).

I have paper clips stuck in there semi-permanently. Broken or inadequate standby power ... I'm more likely to "fix" it by rewiring the power switch to hard-start the supply.

Maybe for linux. I use it all of the time on windows.

The switch is fine, I explained the problem. I'd just as soon have the front button go direct to the supply but they don't do it that way.

Specs wise, Athlon XP 2000+, DX 8.1, GeForce 2 integrated, Win 98 First Edition/IE5.5. It rocks ;).... the benchmark map in this thread, mm5, was originally made on a Celeron 333 & TNT2.

Saying my PC rocks was slightly sarcastic, but only slightly. When I originally started engineering work, there wasn't any PCs. At one point I had both a 286 and a 386 in my office and had NO trouble getting my work done, which is more than I can say about some of the early buggy Windows software I later used for the same purpose. I was there when a developer was raving about how killer the company's newest computer was like a kid with a new toy -- sitting there in front of a 25 foot long VAX. Some of my best gaming experiences are still tied between arcade machines running 1.5 MHz 8-bit CPUs and gaming on the Sega 32X. I learned to Quake on a P120. The only time I hurt for performance was a period after that when I was using a 486-100, but at least I finally managed to get into DooM. I mastered an album and manufactured hundreds of music CDs on my 333 as well as developing some popular Cube levels. Even my current system can get framey but hasn't lacked in Gaming Moments -- not to mention the gaming I've developed on it. I may even end up self-employed thanks to some of the other apps I run. My only recent upgrade was a new HD -- what a relief to not run out of space every few weeks.

So, anyway, I have the perspective to realise today's "trash" system is extremely powerful, even if the salesmen are still claiming the bottom-of-the-line systems are only "good enough to check your email" and the kids just don't *know*.

More interesting to me than specsmanship would be to understand some of the other differences in performance. For example, I used a P2-450 system that was at least *10 times* as fast as my Celery and probably could give some current systems some competition. No one's been able to explain that one to me.

Heh, because celeron just sucks. Your p2 probably had a larger cache than a celeron. I remember switching from p3-800 to celeron 2.6ghz was a huge dissapointment back then.

You´re right about your 333, that was about the time hd recording and mastering on a pc became really worthwile. I remember some stuff we mastered on a p166 too, but it was a little painful still :)

did u build it yourself?
its pretty good...
if you didnt use if for video editing then the 2 terabytes would be a serious waste... i know that if i mysteriously won the lottery (even though i have never bought a ticket) i would buy a system with 2 X1800XTs in crossfire although i HATE ati. the GeForce 7800... it is not GT or GTX? and what currency is this in... us dollars?

what are your 3D mark scores?

sounds like a good build, was the 7800 the GT, the GTX or the GTX 512? i plan on upgrading my pc to a 7800gt soon

and why have you got 2x 21inch TFT's? flatscreens that big cost a lot, dont they?
