Looks like your cpu is a bit slow.

I have a...

1.2ghz iBook G4 (thats 2.8ghz-3ghz for all you windows and linux people)
Graphics: Ati Radeon 9200
RAM: 512mb DDR SDRAM
OS: Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.3

Faster cpu I recommend

I had cube running on average 75fps on a similar system. It should even run better on linux.
It might be a gfx driver issue, try to update your drivers.
However, I´d recommend getting a better gfx card from nvidia in the long run.gf2-4 would suit this setup I think.

I have a TNT2 M64 32MB that I use under debian with the same RAM and a 1.2 GHz CPU, and I get 30-40 FPS at 640x480 24 bit color. Make sure you've installed nvidia's drivers correctly, keeping in mind that the newest version that you can use with this card is 1.0-7174. Also, the card overclocks well, I've managed to boost my framerate to 40-50 FPS at the same setting using nvclock.

makkE: what changes did you make to get those sort of framerates?

Well, running 16bit colour depth 800x600, with all the filter stuff of the card off.

hah, You could scrape by with my system:

AMD Athlon T-Bird, 1000 Mhz,
256 MB SDRAM (not DDR)
ATI Radeon 9000 w/ 64 MB RAM

Oh yeah, you need to install the nVidia drivers, if you haven't alreay. Never used slackware much, so I can't help ya there, but AFAIK the download from nVidia's site is pretty good.

Directly from the Cube config readme:

Cube is somehow running on software OpenGL. This can happen because you are on a default windows install and haven't installed the latest drivers for your card, or similarly on Linux the system is using Mesa instead of accellerated drivers.

Check if you have installed the Nvidia drivers in Slackware. Like enigma said, download the drivers from http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-8178.html

If you have installed the drivers or updated ones you already had and its still does not work then I would try using Cube in Windows with updated drivers just to cross-reference. (You do have a dual-boot system right?) It is DEFINENTLY not an issue with not having enough grunt to play it. I used to have a Pentium 3 733Mhz, 128mb RAM and a 32mb GeForce 2 MX with Windows 98SE and I got great framrates at 1024x768, although that was with a 2003 release of Cube. That system was upgraded to 208mb RAM with Windows XP Professional and worked fine with Sauerbraten at 800x600 and was then again upgraded to a Radeon 9250 and given to someone else. I set up the latest release of Cube on their pc and it works fine at 1024x768 with great framerates except in large open areas. Bottom line? Forget your hardware, it is a software problem.
