Tutorial: How to host a Cube Server.

by {SSDS}Jero on 12/09/2005 19:50, 33 messages, last message: 02/05/2007 08:38, 15123 views, last view: 05/18/2024 17:24

Step 1:First you must figure out whether or not you are on a router. If you are not on a router then Skip to step 3. If you are on a router continue on to step 2. If you do not know whether or not you are on a router, just ask yourself these questions. Are there more than one computer on the internet? Is my computer wireless? If you said yes to one of these questions you are on a router.

Step 2: Now that you know you are on a router you must forward the following ports on your router: 28765 and 28766. They must both foward both UDP and TCP. If you are unsure how to foward ports in your router you can try going to the routers manufacturers website, and search for Port Fowarding in the support area.

Step 3: Now we must get your computer ready to host a server. Go to the Start menu and select Programs and then highlight cube. This should show you the folder where you start cube. Next place your cursor over the \"Cube\" shortcut, (the same thing you click to start cube) and right click. This will bring up a menu, on the menu click \"Copy\". Next go to you desktop and right click. Then Select \"Paste\". This should create an exact copy of your cube shortcut.

Step 4: Now that we have a new cube button on our desktop we need to change it in order to run a cube server. Right click your New cube shortcut and click on \"Properties\". A new window should appear. Look for the area labeled \"Target\". The following should already be entered in target, \"C:\\Program Files\\Cube\\cube.exe\". If it says something similar to that it is ok. Now click right after the cube.exe\" . Insert a space after the Quotation mark and type -d then press space again and type -c6 *note* this changes how many players can join your server, so you can change it whatever number you wish. But remember too many players and your server may lag alot. Next put in anther space and type -nSERVERNAME This is obviously the name that will appear on the server list. Next Click Ok on the properties window.

Step 5: Double Click on your new Cube Shortcut. This should bring up a black window simmilar to the command prompt we saw earlier. It should automattically try and start your server. If you recieve the message that your server was successfully added....Then Congratz! your server is up and running! If you unfortunatly get the message that \"your server does not respond to pings\", then you need to go back to step 2 and figure out what you did wrong on port fowarding.

Step 6: Remember that you must leave the window that came up open in order for your server to keep running. If you close the black window on your desktop your sever will shut down. Now you can start up Cube from the start menu (the way you normally do) and go to \"update server from master list\". Once you see your server on the list (it should be the very first seeing that you will have the best ping on it) double click it and FRAG AWAY!

I hope this will be helpful to someone. If you have any questions or see something that I missed please feel free to post.
Thanks. Jero.

eh, it happens when you mess up somehow in the upload process. it's a bit annoying, especially to the poster, but nothing terrible.

hope that lots of people find this useful. i would have, a few months ago, but i learned the hard way. this is much easier.

Firewall? You need to allow the 2 UDP ports mentioned to host a server.
Then, you use the relevant command to start the server, depending on your OS.

#10: Configuring the server

by Xerxes on 12/27/2005 12:32

Sorry if this is a stupid question, I did RTFM but couldn't figure it out.

How do I configure the server? Is there a way (other than voting) for me as a LAN server creator to specify map rotation list or game type? Is the 10 minutes limit hardcoded, or can we play, say, with 50 frags limit? Can the voting be disabled?

Thanks...

modify servers.cfg under cube folder to add your server address in clients computer like:
addserver 192.168.0.1

double click server.bat in the cube directory on one of the pcs. open cube and open the console. write "connect your.ip.address.here" minus the quotes and press enter. if you DONT know how to find your ip address, go start > run. type cmd and press enter. you should see a black window. type ipconfig and press enter. a bunch of stuff should come up. something should look like this: Ip Address. . . . . : 192.168.0.4. In my case i type "connect 192.168.0.4" on both my pc (with the server) and my little brothers. same applies if you have a net server. sometimes i run a server, name changes alot but is mostly {cX}Sydney , anyway it dosent show up in server browser. thats got to do with nat and networking and i dont noe jack shit about networking. anyway, to connect to a public net server you are running, you still have to put in the local ip address of the computer with the server. does that answer your question?
