Freezing Game on Linux

I have heard of a few ppl. having this problem. Up to now the best reason I heard was that routing/firewall issues were to blame.

Currently I am DNATing all Cube ports (TCP & UDP!) to my local machine.
The problem occured twice since then.

Since the mouse is not freed when you "kill -9" the linux_client process you have to restart cube and exit it normally for your X to work "as usual".

Any thoughts?

Since last week there were so few servers online and my own got crashed a couple of times I'm wondering wether this might be a form of exploit ...
