#3: how do I add downloaded maps?

by bewniepal on 11/14/2005 20:51

I've downloaded CUBE maps and want to play them. I've unzipped them and moved the pairs of files to new folders in the CUBE packages folder. But they still don't appear when I open CUBE. How come??

You need to edit the menus.cfg file so that the new maps are included in the map-related menus. I'm posting this from work, and I can't remember the exact commands for doing this, but if you look at the menus.cfg file, you can probably guess your way through it. If not, let me know and I'll post more detailed instructions once I get home.

Btw, if you are using the Linux version of Cube, there's a script at http://cube.snieb.com/node/85 that can do most of the work for you.

Changing the menus.cfg can lead to unwanted results (for multiplayer).
If you add a new map to the main map´s menu for example, and you play on a server, everyone will switch to metl3 again at the end of the last map, while you will end up on the added map. Can lead to confusion.
You can add em to sp menus of course.
Easiest way is to type either /map mapname (without the .cgz) or to type /sp mapname (if it´s a singleplayer map)

o_O

Map rotation like that isn't affected by menus.cfg.

It happened to me back then. Had my first map added at the bottom. When the last regular map was done, I was on my own map, while everyone else was on metl3.
Afaik, the server just tells the clients to vote for the next map in their list.

#8: new menus

by mikshaw on 11/15/2005 16:36

Another option is to create a new menu in autoexec.config with the "newmenu" command, and use a hotkey to show that menu:
bind M [ showmenu mymenu ]
newmenu mymenu
menuitem "newmap1" "sp newmaps/newmap1"
menuitem "something_else" "ffa something_else"

No, it uses the nextmap alias.

#12: How to install on Ubuntu

by justjuice on 11/16/2005 12:32

I have downloaded the tar.gz, and extracted it. Now how do I install it on Ubuntu? The docs don't seem to mention how to install on Linux at all.
Thanks.

NB: I'm a newbie, so a step-by-step answer would be much appreciated. This game looks cool and I can't wait to play it.

pushplay: yes, in case there is one.

juice: Just run the shell script, you might get messages of some libs missing eventually, just install those if required.

#14: more trouble adding new maps

by bewniepal on 11/17/2005 22:10

I've downloaded a new BASIC editor so I can see what I'm doing when I diddle with autoexec.cfg. And I've copied half a dozen map folders into the properties folder. I haven't yet touched menus.cfg, which the author warns against doing. I bound the autoexec.cfg to the "F1" key, and for the first time it WORKS! At least the list of new maps appears on the screen. But if I click on any of them I get "cannot open .cfg map file" or something similar. Why won't CUBE open these files out of the folders in properties? I must STILL be doing something wrong.

could you tell me how can I play in windowed mode?
because when I try to start the game my screen goes black and I can only hear the music and I think it could work if I run it in windowed mode.
NB: I'm a newbie and I'm spanish, so a step-by-step and simple answer would be great. Thank you
