one more Cube SP level: LIGHT

LIGHT, probably my last Cube level, is available. It makes use of experimental bits over 2 years old and was finished with the attitude of making a crazy fragging level ... "better than DMSP" ;)

Art. They may not conform to classical level design rules, but I love the looks. The grey tree room was freaky.

my comp would freeze up everytime i went in the grey tree room. i'm fairly sure it's not my video card or anything- i've put it under much worse, and the i'm able to look into the room (during editing mode with oculling off) just fine. i suppose i'll have to find a way around it.

That's strange. There is a invisible music trigger (20) when you enter through the low arch, but you're probably saying it also freezes if you editmode enter the room also. The teleport to the next section is 6, or you can skip to the _part2 map. I doubt the mapmodel polys exceed the ivy madness in Camera. Maybe some graphical problem with using 32x32 (tiny) skybox textures? ... I've seen some strange things myself. Sometimes my fullbright script causes only part of the room there to get fullbrighted. And sometimes triggers don't work -- a few near the end I retrigger in script just to help make sure you can finish the level, but I can't do anything about ones that are necessary to proceed. Rare, but a real problem.

Thanks, Aard!

Sweet sp map, pretty crazy when you teleport in that room with a shit load of monster, and man the first time the tree room went blue it was almost blinding:) But all in all an awsome intresting map. Youve got alot of originality and i hope you map for Sauerbraten.

Well who knows what I'll make. In this case I had some stuff sitting there that deserved finishing up, but I didn't work on it too hard. I realized a little over a year ago I needed to not get too obsessed with mapping, OK if I keep it fun but otherwise no... Good to see this was still well received.

I have a Sauer map in some state of progress, but non-mapping projects too, and may be getting back to Unreal mapping someday also.

wow, huge download. i'll get back to you on your product later, once i have time to download it :)

once note: shouldn't the link in the side bar be D.S.F., not D.F.S.?
also, isn't there some sort of bug with mp3 files in cube? you'ld probably be better off using ogg vorbis anyways...

That was nasty of you, Spentron, taking away health when picking up that carrot :-)

Otherwise, I'm enjoying that map. I also picked up conundrum while I was there and I like it too.

and you, JB, I didn't get any work done tonight, and it's all your fault :-)

Awesome map (I still haven't quite finished finding my way through it yet)

Thanks for the maps guys, I appreciate the work that goes in to them.

"That was nasty of you, Spentron, taking away health when picking up that carrot :-)" ... Only place I can see you're referring to is actually a level change. If you had less than 100 health, health would increase instead -- apparently you were doing very good.

Played DSF, good to see more mapping going on. Definitely more of an "exploration" map. Looks had its high points, overall build quality promising, combat average, non-Egyptianess +1 point.

I'm sorry Spentron, I should have clarified that I cheat (I don't ever play online and compile my own client with more health and weapons). I'm only in it for a bit of relaxation and enjoyment of the maps and in fact I have always been terrible at games. I still try not to get hit though. Cube is my favourite game overall (and I love sauerbraten too of course). I just enjoy games for different reasons than most.

I had just assumed the carrot activated a trigger that reduced my health to "40" which got me blasted rather quickly in that room. I admit that I enjoyed that surprise. Nice "gotcha" that resulted from my cheating, even if it wasn't planned :-)

I very much appreciate (and notice) the work that goes into cube and the maps.

Heheh, now I get it. It DOES change health to 100 (level change), just that I lost it so fast all I saw was "40" before I got creamed. Am I ever a lamer :-)
