Cube Awards 2005 (tm)

So we just had another Cube release, so it is time for something fun. Probably one of the cooler aspects of Cube are its in-game map editing, and the result of that: hundreds of maps made just for Cube.

So lets all vote on the best Cube maps. See below the template... copy it in your post, and replace the aard maps by your actual choices (no these aren't my picks, just an example). You should pick 3 maps for each category, where a 1st place map gets 3 points, 2nd place 2, and 3rd place 1.

Only post once, don't go posting "oh I'd like to change my pick for...". Make sure the map names you uses are their names on disk, minus the .cgz, so if we get many entries we can use a script... or someone can just add em by hand. If there's a category you don't play, you don't include it in your post. If you have to explain your picks, do that seperate from the template below.

My 2 cents:

Cool Idea, Aard!!
I left out best visuals (overcoming cube´s limitations) because I honestly don´t know any map that is looking good at doing it..

Metl3 has to be the best visuals winner here, coz it´s still untouched.. so clean,consistant and the lightning.. simply superb.
Cellar on 3rd for it´s excellent mix of texture themes and being consistent in that.

biologie has to win best architecture, I believe it was a milestone back then in showing how nice little details can be done. (at least I think it was) a lot of love went into that one..
Spillway has fine architecture too.

Best sp still is mpsp5, his clever monster placement is just great..
dcp_the_core.. just very enjoyable atmosphere.

Aard3 is king of gameplay.. so much map in such a small space.. tactically the most challenging map ever in 1on1 instagib. (and a tough one in ffa too!)
Metl2 is my favourite ffa map.Great layout, and always a heated battle for map control.
Tartech is just great in insta.
For dmsp.. haven´t played that much, but I remember metl´s maps worked best.

Too bad there wasn´t a worst map ever category.. zippie would have won, hihi.

Thanks for the kind words on aard3. aard1 was the first cube map ever, by anyone :), and aard2 was just a failed heightfield experiment. aard3 is my only serious attempt at making Cube gameplay work. I tried making it very vertical and compact, yet with enough space to hide for a second.

Well, since many of the maps that are being made for Sauer hit Quadropolis first, you could use the ratings stars in that to rate them. Then you'd have a decent idea of how popular they are

(disappointed so few Quadropolis users rate the maps).

Best Visuals (architecture)
1. Metl3

Best Gameplay (instagib)
1.Aard1 (it reaches not the first place because i love this map. instagib in cube need much of this so called aim ;). But this is the only map were mapcontroll, and things like movement tricks with the teleports are much more important, so this is the number imho)

2.Inkedskin (Quite interesting map with a great layout)

3.Douze

Best Gameplay (normal weapon)
1. Metl3
2. Mak2
3. Oddworld
