#8: masterserver won't register me

by 007 on 08/25/2005 02:09

When I try to run a dedicated server, the masterserver reply is : Server not registered: Old protocol. Please update your server. I use the new (today) unix-binaries.

Is it a bug ?

#11: BUG!!!! Uppercase filenames.

by CrazyTB on 08/25/2005 16:38

mapmodels 54, 55, 60, 63, 64 crashes cube here.

I've discovered that some of the files are written as "tris.MD2", in UPPERCASE. Just to remember that unix-like systems are case-sensitive.

Someone please fix this and upload a new archive to sourceforge.

To fix it easily, run this thing on bash:
cd packages/models/tentus/
for a in */*MD2; do mv "$a" "${a/MD2/md2}"; done

I forgot to say, but I think some more than those listed above crashes here. However, those little two bash lines fixes everything.

#13: Health.png

I've found the file "data/Health.png" in cube archive. If that file is not used anywhere, why it is there?

Okay, I fixed all that.

#15: Lack of minlod/fpsrange and outdated docs

by CrazyTB on 08/25/2005 18:02

I miss those minlod/fpsrange options. They were really useful to make tha maps render faster here. Used to use "fpsrange 30 40" and "minlod 90".

Anyway, if these options won't be back, the documentation must be updated. There are places refering to "LOD", but this version does not have LOD anymore.

huh. i think those models were made on the newer version of q2modeller. i'll look for a lowercase option for that, but it shouldn't be much of a problem (from me) in the future, i usually use the 8.3 version anyhow. i'll try and remember to doublecheck that in the future.

#18: Some changes to mapmodels

by CrazyTB on 08/27/2005 02:48

I suggest some very useful and needed changes to some mapmodels:

39 - makke/strahler - This light should have some collision box, so the player would be able to climb on it (like currently is possible with streetlamp).

39 - makke/strahler - I think this model should be "lower", and if the author wants to put it at higher places, author should do it manually. This would allow more ideas for light positions, intead of hardcoded very high one.

56 - tentus/pot1 - This vase/pot needs some collision box. Even the anvil (64), which is a lot smaller, has a collision box.

To test a lot of mapmodels at once, do a /newmap 7 and use this modified "test_all_mapmodels":

alias my_test_all_models [ loop 70 [ select (+ (* (mod $i 8) 8) 16) (+ (* (div $i 8) 8) 16) 1 1; newent mapmodel $i ] ]

CrazyTB, this can all be defined in your map´s cfg file, just how you like it.
There´s nothing hardcoded about initial height or bounding box of a model.

mapmodel a b c d "blah"

a=bounding box width
b=height of bounding box
c=initial height
d=the "snap" value for architectural
models to alighn better with cubes

Yes, I know. However, your "strahler" model was created in such a way it is impossible to make it lower than currently is (except if I edit the MD2).

What I've suggested for collision boxes was for a "better default values" to be shipped with Cube.

BTW, I don't understand what is the "snap value for architectural models". Documentation does not explain what it does, and I never saw an example of it in use.

the reason for that was so health or ammo can be hidden inside the pots. it was just a way of making things flow better visually in CL.

negative mapmodel height would be nice, now that i think about that model. Crazy makes some good points regarding the new stuff.

Yes, I have the same problem.

Server not registered: Old protocol. Please update your server.
sending request to wouter.fov120.com...

I am still able to connect to:

tinyRealm.com

Using the new cube release but my
server can\'t be seen in the server
list at: wouter.fov120.com

Since they think I am using an old
version of cube, when actually I
am using the newest version of Cube :-)

Hi,

I am using the new Unix binary distrabution and I've had a couple of issues:

Cube freezes in the middle of my SP games sometimes (after several minutes of gameplay)...just freezes like it's stuck in a screen shot...sound dissapears when this happens and my hard-drive doesn't thrash at all. The last Cube version was very stable on my system in comparison.

It's happened three times now. I believe I was playing the 'ksp2' and the 'dcp_the_core' map. Has anyone had similar problems?

Also, I was unable to save my games until I manually created a 'savegames' directory (it wasn't included in the download).

On a positive note, the new weapon models look great and the newer SP maps are really fun.

Thanks!

-kerm

My cube freezed in MP two days ago, really weird because it was the first time since I have cube. The OS was still responding though.

#26: changes to masterserver?

by kernowyon on 09/04/2005 20:41

I run a server for the new release of cube at a remote site. Yesterday, it was fine - as were two other new version servers I connect to at times.
Today, I cannot connect to my own server - I get the error about responding to ping. Even if I use the -m switch, I still cant connect.
I notice that one of the other two new servers seems to have the same error - yet the other is fine!
Any ideas or comments welcome :)
