Mouse Bug?

by Topher2798 on 05/20/2002 01:33, 21 messages, last message: 06/17/2002 01:50, 3993 views, last view: 05/05/2024 02:58

Noticed something interesting with CUBE at a LAN event over the weekend. People playing with USB mice were having some horrid problems when playing the game. They could move forward and backward smoothly but when they used the mouse to turn with, it caused the screen to hang momentarily or jump around kind of like bad lag. It only happened when they turned left or right with the USB mouse. When they attached a PS/2 mouse, the problem went away.

Hmmm... I just received word from two other people who use USB mice and it works great for them also. Two guys at the LAN event had this same odd problem. One of them switched over to a PS/2 mouse and it fixed it. The other guy didn't even try, he just closed the game and started playing something else. As far as I know, they were using the default mouse sensitivity. Maybe it was the mouse drivers. Then again, if cube is only reading the mouse deltas, I can't see why the problem showed up in the first place. Strange....

It could be such a large variety of things that until someone else has this problem it's probably not worth worrying about.

i have a ps2 mousey, and it has a cracked eye (its optical) when i lift it up, it sends the cursor flying to the bottom of the screen, but when i play cube, cube kills all mouse movement, ie. diables the mouse, even when i quit its dead

I was the one with the mouse problems at the lan. Before the lan, I couldn't even get DI/Cube to run. It would lock up when it opened the Dos promt. I changed no mouse settings.

Right now, once again, DI/Cube won't run. It locks up when I try to enter it. I'd really like to get in and map again...This is quite frustrating.

I guess the mouse and the DI/Cube locking up could both be WinXP related (probably is =)).

Any insight if would help me, thanks.

This game has a mind of it's own.

Now my DI/Cube works and The mouse problem is gone...

Try using a PS/2 mouse and see if that fixes your problem. Your issue might not be mouse related anyway. It could be video driver related.

i would think that is ur puter or ur gfx, that sounds alot like a problem some computers have.

do you happen to have a very hot athlon? i have known them to perform tricks like that

Cube doesn't work now, hangs when loading...

It's going back in worth, of course, only when I want to start a map...

I must be mouse driver related, the only thing I can think of is my drivers were changed, and when I switched mice, then reinserted my usb mouse, it reloaded some drivers.

But I can't even get into cube right now.

Is there some sort of Error report doc. I can read?

Ok, now it works.

After about an hour of messing with settings etc, I reinstalled it, still no affect so I tried the compatability modes and made the cube.bat and cube.exe both run in 98. It works without the mouse problem too.

You probably have to be more specific. What are your system specs, what os are you running, what errors do you get?

I thought I stated them earlier. Oh well:

1.4 Athlon T-bird
256DDR ram
40gig Hdd
Geforce 2 MX 400

Running WinXP

No errors are given, and nothing useful came from the event log.

Hanging application cube.exe, version 0.0.0.0, hang module hungapp.....

look at its output. if your winxp doesn't show the output, run cube.bat from the command line. paste the last 2 lines of output here :)
