TMapGen

http://tmapgen.sourceforge.net/

There's no real documentation yet, but what's in the package should get you started. Next step is to create a 3D perlin noise generator (should be easy now that I've worked the bugs out of 2D) and a function to import lua modules.

I'm going to take a break and go run around outside a bit, as I've been working on this for a week and a half straight. Oh, the joys of being unemployed :)

Once you're done, I'm gonna come back and see if it's possible to generate (and save) entire landscapes (multiple cubes) and caves.

If so I'm thinking maybe it's worthwhile to generate quite a large island, then for hand build houses, towers etc on it. That would call for some nice out-side gameplay :)

i would wait for sauer to get better optomized first; big high-quality landscapes need lots of computing power (hence lowww fps)

Yeah, if you want to make high-quality landscapes, you're going to have to use some tricks, not just throw perlin noise over all the size 5 cubes in a size 12 map :P. One possibility is to use larger cubes, but vary their height. You can't do this in tmapgen yet, but it's coming.

I'm not sure what you mean by 'multiple cubes' (a map with only a single cube is not only boring but impossible), but I've made a nice landscape generator, now. Download the latest release and check out test6. For the number of cubes in sight, the FPS ain't too bad either...

...on my 200$ video card, anyway :P

Speaking of landscapes, I sure hope someone puts a skyfog option back in. It really bugs me thw way things dissapear into the skybox on the horizon. I'd much rather just have fog.

PLEASE, ignore my last message. I posted to wrong thread. (if there is some "delete message" option, please someone use it!) :)

And here's a map showing off the 'landscape+cave' capability: http://cube.snieb.com/node/90 (basically script 7 from the latest release).

It also shows off what I think is a bug in the latest CVS version: the sky gets all HOMmy if it's too far away.

Framerate through much of this level is pretty low, down to 25fps sometimes, even on my Radeon 9800. This is the case even when you're looking straight at a wall, and this indicates to me that there is still a lot of optimisation that can be done to Sauer.
