Cube Legends

This thread exists for discussion of my MOD, Cube Legends. This block of text introducing it is nonspecific so I'm not stuck with outdated or blatantly wrong information at the top of the thread.

#40: more entities!

by CC machine on 05/21/2005 21:38

Also to add to that list:

18. walls that can be knocked down only by hitting them with a rocket / when they take x amount of damage
19. fly pickup (give ability to fly like you can underwater and in edit mode)
20. money (silly idea really, money can be acconplished by simply using good coding skills in the map .cfg file)

there. 20 ents. that should be enough for one day

if you can code them, i'll include them :)

you have to realize that i'm teaching myself C++ by expirimentation. i have yet to have a formal computer class, everything i know is self taught or advice tossed to me by people i know. it doesn't help that i have very limited time available to me, and i'm dealing with serious video card problems right now.

#1 is being incorporated, i'd like to get 6, 8, 9, 13 and 16 in there. if anyone wants to send me coding i will most likely include it (that even include you jean, if you want to make a diff file for your boss monster)

#42: dont look at me for coding

by CC_machine on 05/22/2005 10:52

as i said in the water thread, i have no idea how to compile cube, never mind program C++. I have used VB6 and game maker (http://www.gamemaker.nl) before,so i do have basic programming knowledge, but thats all the programming ive ever done

i've looked at gamemaker. i found that no matter how simple a game you make, the stuff it produces is ridiculously large.

i have no C++ knowledge either, but it doesn't stop me from trying my hand. through trial and error i've actually got some things to work. you try it, it grows on you after a while.

But it will get you stuck on scripts only actions.

good point jean peirre, oh and tentus what do you mean by 'rediculously large'?? if you're talking about the file size game maker makes, that is because every single thing needed for the game (sprites, sounds, etc etc) is in there, unlike cube which relies on being in the right folder surrounded by resources. game maker does take some time to learn, so dont decide it 'sucks' without looking at everything, it even has a scripting language called GML (game-maker-language)

oh and another thing, i think i should mention im only 13, but i dont think that should be a problem

hello? anyone out there?

#47: for the love...

please don't double post on the CL thread. some of us don't get on every hour and twenty five minutes. just chill, ok?

the reason i think GameMaker produces bloated code is simple. the engine for a simple, straitforward game (eg the flyswatter tutorial) is larger than the whole cube engine, not counting the sprites and music, etc, which are outside resources.

i'm 17. it's not stopping me from ignoring simplistic languages like GML (which i did learn the basics of when i was about 14) and moving straight on to C++.

#48: double post

by CC_machine on 05/26/2005 19:44

ok sorry, dunno what made me do that

i am currently workng on a 3d FPS game (gamemaker can do that) in gamemaker, so dont diss it

Wait i thaught you were talking about Cube sorry now that i gotten up i dont know how to add the weapons but if you follow the weapons stuff reading the reloading time and damage stuff(if you dont know how to make a health bar(must be invisible)then go to platforms tutorial)

Other then that im working on games of my own right now like CoolGuy game but the tutorial is Advanced and even for me so i cant help too much also i dont even tough it right now due to im making my own Projects.

to make a health bar you must set it to 100 at the start of the game and then put a <draw health bar> action in the draw event of an object, i recommend using a special object that doesnt do anything else except both of these, oh and dont give it a sprite so you dont see it in-game

Maybe you could do your converstion by email or something? It doesn´t have to do with Cube Legends anymore, not even with cube.

I concur. I'm trying to keep this thread as simple as possible, to benefit anyone with questions about Cl.

well if there is nothing to talk about that has to do with CL, i dont see why not..

i just explained that. other people exist in this world, CCMachine. a few of the may one day read this thread, looking for answers about Cube Legends. by you spamming it up, you make them less inclined to keep reading. hence, you are making my life more difficult by spamming this thread.

NOW, on to CL news and updates:
i have exams next week and then i'm free for the summer (more or less, i'll need to get a job, but...), which means that hopefully i'll be able to put a lot of hours into CL developement. For the most part I'm going to be focusing on making a Campaign for CL, making mapmodels and such as the need arises. I'm going to continue coding work, yes, but i need a break from it.

Also, I've dug up a lot of new MIDIs to use for music, but if anyone knows of some good music that would fit CL, please make a mention of it!

#59: saurbraten legends?

by CC machine on 05/31/2005 16:12

off-topic:
oh ok soz i was just answering a question from jean pierre

on-topic:
there seems to be a lot of focus on sauerbraten at the moment, have you thought about making a 'saurbraten legends'? if you do, you may want to wait for a more mature version

though i do realise that cube is sufficient for your mod..

P.S. i am CC_machine, not CCMachine or CC machine, not to be fussy, lots of people missspell my name it really gets on my nerves
