Is Cube limited to 45° corners?

by Devil Master on 02/17/2005 23:35, 10 messages, last message: 02/18/2005 19:37, 1486 views, last view: 05/04/2024 01:37

I just downloaded Cube and read the readme: I must say I\'m disoriented, since I\'m used to Unreal-style editing. Is the Cube engine really limited to 45° corners in mapping, so that I cannot make, for example, a round fountain?
Please, don\'t make a reply like \"go edit Unreal\", I just need to clear out the confusion about Cube!

Oh, by the way, another question just popped in my mind. Can I make meshes with my favorite 3D modelling program and import them into Cube?

P.S.
My "favorite 3D modelling program" is Gmax; I use the Quake3 plugin to save the models and I convert them between formats with Deep Exploration.

if you can export .md2 models, you can use them in cube.

and yes, mapping is limited to 45° corners.

just keep in mind cube is very simple.. so you can´t neccesarily do everything you want, but there´s always ways to make it look cool anyways ;) if you want more complex stuff (round corners) make mapmodels for it ;) (note that cube´s lightning is simple too, so you´ll have to add sufficient lighting to the skins aswell)

Already made the rounded-walls models, they'll be included in my release of Cube Legends. If you want them sooner though email me and I'll email them to you. Bear in mind that this will adversely affect performance, but I've kept the models low-poly enough to make the effect negligable.

But you cant test your maps with monsters and stuff and i found Sauer really boring Sauer isnt a game its just a test engine and its not completed it will never add features like monsters and stuff so if you want to game use Cube.

yup. look into the readme of the tenebrae engine (quake1 based engine with the approach of implementing doom3 style graphical effects) under beta testing... :-)
