you´re lucky, dude !
If framerates get too high (some linux ppl reach over 1000 by now) the physics will freak out, making it unplayable..

Those screenshots could be very old..;)

Having framerates that high is very bad! Contact me immediatly and send me your video card and I'll send you back an old geforce2.

you think THIS is old?

hey, i still have a (really) old 3dfx voodoo1 (miro hiscore, the one with the largest ram of the good ol' voodoo1 series), then an old voodoo3 2000 pci (in my internet PC, you can still play games like q1-2, TR1-3 and blood2 with it) and one machine still runs with a tnt2.

not to forget the two machines running with a gf4MX440

Heh, you're all way way back. Check this out:

On the left you see a Trident with 512 kb, you could play things like dos doom in 320x240 and even hi-res stuff like WarCraft 2 with this baby. However, it wasn't until one guy felt sorry for me and gave me the monster on the right I unleashed the true power of my 486. It's a Cirrus Logic with 1MB, runs the same things as the trident but DOOM for example, you could feel the walls sliding smoothly around you. I also played Diablo and StarCraft with it. Although Windows games didn't run exactly as intended (not even close, especially with sound on), things like the SC map editor for example were fine and I made maps :)

no, jc, he has to turn vsync off..

though vsync is the only way to enjoy games imho...if you get enough fps to get a stable framerate..

Good'ole Cirrus Logic... That 1Mb VLB card i'd bought video RAM extension chips for enough colours with a stunning resolution of 1024x768 on a huge 14" monitor :)

@etech:

A great fps-killer is FSAA. usually you get noticeable image quality improvement with just a lower setting... testing this to the max setting sometime gave 15fps where i had 80fps without, specially at higher resolutions.

As jcdpc says, vsync is the more sensible option, as it will make a nearly fixed fps

For the best tuned setting of smooth fps/visual quality, i'd recommend that you disable vsync, play with FSAA settings until you have the lowest fps that's still a bit higher than the refresh rate and then enable vsync
