I'm running an AMD K-6 500 MHz with 64MB and a 3dfx Voodoo3-3000 and I can't even get the game to start-up!!
WTF?
Can someone please explain to me what I need?
Is it the 'Windows' driver at fault, or the 3dfxgl.dll/minigl.dll/blah.dll?
Someone please help..... :-)

as its clearly a driver/os problem. There are people out there running cube fine on v2's and v3's, and others that don't. So theres nothing for me to "fix", given that I can't really provide workarounds for specific driver versions of specific cards on specific OSes.
The only recommendation I can give to people like bascule is to try different driver versions. Alternatively it would be cool to hear from people that run it successfully on voodoo boards which driver release (and maybe OS/directX) versions they use.
As to the V1, I still have the old ppro200 I am tuning up, I could stick it in there, given you really have no use for it :)

I am assuming from what Aard says that Cube does not use a mini-GL implementation.
I would like to know what Voodoo 3 driver versions are being used by people who are running the game successfully, as I think that is the cause of the problem.
I run the original (as sold with the card) driver version under Win98.

You might want to try to update your drivers, as the Voodoo 3 is quite old now, your drivers probably are, too.

I'm now all sorted (although not without grief getting the updated drivers loaded and running) ho hum!
So then I went on the servers and they were deserted - where the hell is everyone.

Currently the Cube player base can be
considered essentially non-existent when compared to other more popular and *cough* crappier *cough* commercial games out there. Best way to get a game going is to drop into #cube on irc.gamesnet.net and ask for other players.

Uh, I've seen Cube running just fine on every generation of Voodoo. Just get the "Q3 Compatible" drivers from x3dfx.com and it should run just fine. Well, playably anyway. Cube actually runs very well on a Voodoo5 (relative to how it runs on Nvidia/PowerVR/other hardware) - especially a Voodoo5 at 226Mhz!

on your v5, does it give that problem that if you shoot a rocket, it explodes almost immediately (some people have reported this). If not, please post what driver version you are using.

Sometimes I find the opposite rocket problem in that when the rocket hits a wall it stays there *fizzing* for up to 5 seconds before exploding.
I can't come up with any rational explanation for this except some sort of timing bug??

I also get the same problem but only when I connect to the server. I don't see it when I just load a map.

Using a Voodoo3,4 or 5 on Win2K or XP?
Use these drivers, they worked great for me on my P3-450 with V3-3000.

Maybe someone should keep an updated list of card/driver combinations that are known to work.

The gun can't be seen, not at the momment, [Aardappel]if someone makes the models it will be implemented later[Aardappel]
If you get low fps, it's probably a driver issue(happens to everyone) download new drivers.. if it doesnt work then i dunno.

Hey, the game works perfectly for me... running windows 2000 w/ the official win2k drivers from 3dfx (www.voodoofiles.com has them). The only "problem" i have is a very minor glitch: at certain times i see several white pixels on the screen. This problem is no big deal though, and does not affect the gameplay whatsoever. Anyway, i've spent several hours playing your game multiplayer already, and would like to congratulate you for a job well done. Very fun and fast paced, and the network code is nice, only consuming about 1k or traffic (per second). Keep up the good work.

Those white pixles are called sparkles. That happens because the engine must round off which triangle occupies which pixle and makes a rounding error in the corner and decides that neither do.
