Grab libsdl on libsdl.org

You need:

http://www.libsdl.org/download-1.2.php
http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_image/
http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_mixer/

Then you just unpack the cube-osx thing in the root folder of cube and you are good to go.

You might want to make a bash startup script to launch the game at your favorite resolution too.

And how do you make a bash startup script to do that?

This is not intended as a flame or anything--this is strictly informational:

"Mac gamers" do in fact exist. They enjoy many of the same games you do, only later and more stable (usually).

For instance, go to http://www.macsoftgames.com and look at their lineup:
Halo, Unreal Tournament 2004, Dungeon Siege (yes, Microsoft Game Studios), Civilizations III and Master of Orion 3 are just a few examples.

Also, did you know that almost all of Blizzard Software's games support Mac?
Starcraft (and Brood War)
Diablo (Mac OS 9.22 and under)
Diablo II (incl. Lord of Destruction) (Mac OS 9.22 and under and OS X)
Warcraft 2
Warcraft 3 (incl. Frozen Throne)

And the best thing is, they're right on the same disc as the Windows installations...although some do require you to use the internet to get OS X versions (Diablo II comes to mind).

And I must not forget the Shareware/Freeware market. Check VersionTracker and CNet's Download.com, and www.macgamefiles.com too if you've got some time.

Most of my activities on my Mac are game related. So yes, there are Mac gamers, they're just not heard as often, as Microsoft owns most of the market.

Anyway, just thought I'd clarify.

Well personally, both OS' are good systems to me. Mac OSX looks prettier, and windows... well it HAS some good qualities I'm sure. I mean aside from ripping out the plus themes, I suppose the user accounts are good. But thats not the point, the point is that neither side is good nore bad. this is fact. a

Actually, Cyborgmanx, this isn't really a "Mac vs. PC" discussion--I was just explaining a point. Yes there are more windows games (and more windows gamers) than Mac, but consider the market shares. What, Microsoft owns...80-90%? That's a lot, so of course mac gamers are going to be more rare than your windows breed. Just the way it works I suppose.

#10: Windows gamers, Mac gamers

by D.plomat on 10/23/2004 00:08

and Linux gamers too...

If devel teams are investing time to code portable libraries, they're doing so for a reason...

So that each gamer can play his favorite game on his favorite platform, right? :)

It's probably just a matter of time the OSX Cube community grows enough to have some techs making a stable and well packaged build.

We have a very well coded game that has a great potential for portability, so having a build for another platform benefits both Cube community and this platform's community, if this leads to technical stuff instead of users spamming to ask support for their platform, or being flamed because some have platform intolerance against them.

err... what is the problem? the macosx binary included with cube is more recent and supports all the features, unlike the sourceforge project. Is this again one of those "I don't know how to open an archive" problems?

If you have OS 9, I don't know of any solution unless Cube for OSX is Carbonized, in which case you'll need CarbonLib and the OS 9 binaries (not development) of SDL, SDL_image and SDL_mixer.

http://www.libsdl.org/download-1.2.php
http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_image/
http://www.libsdl.org/projects/SDL_mixer/

If you're using OS X, get the OS X Binaries from the above links, unpack them (simply double-click, then double-click the installer to install). Then just unpack the cube-osx.zip (or was it .sit? I've not unpacked it since I updated) and make sure it's in the cube directory, not in the bin directory where the windows stuff is. For example, my Cube directory is
/Games/Action/Cube
and that's where the cube application should be placed--otherwise you'll run into problems.

Oops, a point I fogot to mention--I don't know how to change the resolution in the OS X build, as it's a .app and I've never seen command line options passed to a .app-based application.

Simple, you open a terminal, go to wherever you installed cube, then type ./cube.app/Contents/MacOS/cube -w1280 -h1024 (the numbers are whatever resolution you want to use) you can also make a bash script for this.
