Cube Installer Created.

Okay, here it is. Posted this elsewhere, but twas a dumb thread that could be ignored. Anyhoo:

http://zarate.homedns.org/stuff/

Bottom line is Cube Setup. There you go. If anyone wants to make an opening readme file, closing readme file, or license file, I'll insert it. Cube icons would also help.

Other problem: wanted to put a link to autoexec.cfg in the startup menu, but I can't seem to make it associate to notepad properly. If anyone knows how to create a link such that a non-notepad-associated file opens in notepad, I'd love to here it.

This is hosted off of an apache server on my home DSL connection. I just set up the server 5 minutes ago. This is my winxp box that I play games and watch movies on, and the DSL connection is flaky, and I shut it down occaisionally. So this will be a flaky file. If anyone wants to host it elsewhere, go ahead.

You could probably get around this without even creating or modifying a file association. Just have the target of your shortcut call notepad and specify the filename. "notepad.exe filename"

I don't know anything about your installer or what it's capable of doing, but if you really want to create a file association (I probably wouldn't personally like that), you could probably even just merge a .reg file if you have no other way.

Found out what my problem was - I was trying to create a shortcut with the full "notepad.exe autoexec.cfg" when in Inno you need to separate the parameters from the filename. I'll remake it when I get a minute. In the meantime, anybody have a good icon for Cube?

That's a nice idea and easy to make (if it will contain graphics from the game and isn't a drawing or something), maybe we should post some suggestions. The first thing that comes to my mind is an ogro head.

Funny, first thing that came to my mind was a Cube. Maybe a cube wiht fun textures on the sides?

That's cool too and it's very easy to render.. can be done in no time.

Installer's updated. Now has shortcuts for the server and all the files you could need to configure. Still needs icons. Possibly 2-4 - client, server, and help or edits if you feel like.

Did you modified Cubeengine itself too or it is the same as Cube 2004 version?

the same as Cube 2004, packaged into an installer.

#10: Also..

Could use 2 bitmaps - one up to 55x55 for upper right corner of installer, one up to 164x314 for left pane of intro screen. Both only exist in the installer, so they're really just gold plating.

Ok what do you want on the bitmaps? Could be any md2 model in Cube, I will render it with some background color or a background texture or maybe something a little bit more complicated (?).

#12: I'll trust your judgement.

Go nuts - whatever you feel like. I could do this stuff myself, but I'm too lazy. The big pane is on the left side of the intro page of the wizard, the small icon stays in the upper right corner throughout the process. Personally I was thinking just a variant of the run icon for the top-right-corner and an interesting geometry screenshot for the left pane.

Either way, these bitmaps are optional - you only see them during the install process, not like the game icons.

Couldn't download your installer to get a better idea of how those two bitmaps would look.. anyway for the first one I recommend arch.jpg in docs/pics in the Cube folder and for the second one maybe one of the pics you'll find here (they have a 55x55 version in .tga format):
