by Rick on 10/06/2004 21:27, 92 messages, last message: 10/17/2005 13:06, 20773 views, last view: 05/05/2024 10:57

Alrighty, I finished my first bot release for cube :)
Its based on the latstes cube(2004_05_04).

Current features:
- Bots will use all the available weapons.
- Simple, waypointless, navigation.
- Bots should be able to play all gamemodes and shouldn't shoot at team mates :-)
- You can add bots in DMSP, bots will attack the monsters and monsters will attack bots.
When there are bots in a DMSP game, it won't restart when you die.
- When a bot doesn't have an enemy he will search for entities like ammo, teleporters and jumppads.
- Windows and Linux support.

Site(which contains a download link):
http://cube-bots.cjb.cc/

Its pretty basic at the moment but thats where a first release if for :)
If you have any questions/suggestions or bugs please lemme know.

I am going to make some waypoints, but the engine crashes every time I try to save the waypoint file. This is under windows xp.

Yeah....I forgot to add a waypoints folder in the bot folder, you have to add it manually(cube/bot/waypoints).

I spend a few minutes stuffing around with the waypoints.
One thing I noticed is that the waypoints need to be fairly uncomplicated for the bots to not go around in circles. I also found that the bots stay in the one spot if they are standing on ammo or other goodies if there are waypoints on top of the goodies.

If you want my test waypoints (10 or so)go here: http://www.users.bigpond.com/nathanlyle/waypoints.zip
mak1 and ogrosupply are the best one (try insta)

I tried a few of them :)
Looks good, although make sure that you connect waypoints with each other(some weren't in for example metl3 and ogrosupply).

Also its better to make waypoints for sp maps...Since waypoint flooding(automagically waypoint placement in maps) is getting better and mostly enough for mp maps(with map 32 and powerplant as exception). SP maps are to complex in most cases for waypoint flooding(except for wsg1 and wsg2), so it might be more usefull to waypoint them instead :)

too true. at least allow thread-starters to edit their own threads. and a limited-deleting system would be nice too.

Rick - I assume this works on the 2005_08_22 version as well? According to Aard, there is only some stereo changes?
I can always download and check I guess - but though I would ask :)
