Of, I know it's written in the FAQ but I have the latest drivers installed for my nVidia GFX 5200 card and I get 9 fps in cube. I'm running Fedora Core 2.

It\'s very likely because of your OpenGL drivers. Find the ones for your graphics card.

sometimes the very latest drivers won´t work, you might think about reverting to older ones..

Make sure your kernel is up to date, 6111 has been known to not work well with kernels prior to 2.4.21 in the 2.4.x tree and 2.6.6 (I think...) in the 2.6.x tree.

Also, use nvagp, not gart.

Also make sure tu turn off anti aliasing and anisotropic filtering, see the readme to learn how. You can put the commands directly in cube_unix .

Lastly, kill all the sound daemons like Arts and esound. They are know to slow most games to a crawl when they take over the mixing of the sound.

Not using KDE will also help. :)

Hey! Don't bash my KDE! :P

I'm using KDE and nVidia 6111 drivers, and I have no problems at all with cube. :) Well, that is with the exception that I cannot upgrade my nvidia drivers. :( I get ~400 FPS in cube on a GF4200. :D

Tolarian: Is your OpenGL working well outside of cube? What FPS do you get with glxgears? Do you see the nVidia splash screen when X starts? If not, you probably don't have hardare accelleration.

I get 300+ fps here (or is that counter wrong?) on my GF4 Ti4200 128Mb + AMD Athlon 2600.
Im on Fedora Core 3, using the 6629 drivers. what is your fps on glxgears?

I get close to that with same video card but my processor is an Athlon 1800+, same drivers. So your counter is right. :)
