Hello fellow CUBERS!
It's good to see this site up again. I have a new SP map I hope you guys will give a try (Strange Universe - mpsp4.zip). It has over (30) new textures, lots of DCP's models, and Fanatic's music triggered at various parts of the map. Please give it a try, I think it may be my best map so far. You can get it here:
http://www.cleoisdead.net/mpsp4.zip
Just unzip into the CUBE folder and start it with "sp mpsp4".
Enjoy!
MitaMAN

That was really awesome! Interesting mix of styles.
Funny thing is, I just got back from seeing Alien Vs. Predator, and it has some of the same mix of old Egyptian style pyramids and new age technology. :)

That was some good clean fun. Game play wise the first fight up a long flight of stairs was great. Looks wise, towards the end with sandstone walls and orange details looked cool.
There was a point where a Baul splash-damaged some rhinos on the other side of a wall. I killed the Baul and then fired rockets at the wall until the cries of pain stopped. A few triggers later revealed a room full of massacred rhinos. :)

Makke,
I tweaked locations of some monsters and a few pick-ups, but otherwise it's the same map. So far it seems everyone is enjoying this map. Thanks!

Very nice map... Good monster/health/armour placement, LOTS of action (and the rhino traps were cool).
Very nice architechure, especially with the interrupted arches in the techno section. Cool new textures, I might end up using the egyptian wall paintings. The new textures for the tech section were cool too, espically the sideways lowercase "h"
that said, here are things that i noticed:
IMHO you should have made the rhino traps with silent triggers, so the rhinos just come from behind. Also, at the beginning of the level, I lost some shotgun ammo to maxing. Finally, near the end of the level, there is a green armour practally around every corner, I used only one of these.

I've been meaning to come back and tell you how much I love this map. It's become my new favourite. I can see that you have worked long and hard on this. It's beautiful.
It's a bit too hard for me though, good thing I build my own cheat client otherwise I'd never get to see all of it. I've never played games online, I only play for short periods of time to relax and I seldom have the time to get any good at them.
A problem with the map for 'nix users though, many of the files have inconsistent upper/lower case filenames. I had to go through and rename any files to all lower case letters because as you probably know, filenames are case sensitive under Linux.

Hello Grogan,
Glad you liked the map. Sorry if it seemed too hard, I try to make my levels fair to win. I'm not too good a player myself and I hate playing others maps and dying 100 times before I complete them.
I did not know that file names (upper / lower case) made a difference in other OS's (I use winXP). I'll be sure to make any other levels I make "complient" for other OS's.

Hi MitaMan
I don't expect anyone else to come down to my level of lameness, which is why I just alter my client and be happy. I'm sure real gamers enjoy the challenge.
It's still fun for me to try and avoid being hit, and figuring out the mazes without dying or running out of weapons. I could also just reduce the skill level, but then there's less action. I should also say that many of the SP maps are too hard for me, not just yours. (I also very much enjoy your other mpsp maps that are included too, by the way).
I've also got Unreal Tournament 2004 and I play that invincible and fully armed as well using the "god" and "loaded" cheat codes, but with all it's richness I still don't have as much fun with that game as I do with cube.
So thanks for cube and all the contributions to it, folks :-)

It's never as much fun if you cheat. If you can't lose, then you can't really win either.

"It's never as much fun if you cheat. If you can't lose, then you can't really win either."
Of course that's a good point pushplay, and I don't expect that we will have exactly the same notion about what's fun. We probably play games for different reasons.
At any given moment, I'm likely to be more interested in how nice a particular texture looks than what's shooting at me. I always use the highest graphics settings/resolution I can reasonably get away with in whatever game I'm playing too. Cube looks nice at 1280x1024.
For you folks who stay up all night and create the maps and textures, I'm one who notices and appreciates the details :-)
So it's a mix of action and visuals for me, and it depends on my mood. Either way, I do win because I've gotten what I wanted out of it.
Oh yeah, and I cheat at the Myst style games too (I wouldn't buy one without some sort of walk through in hand) I'd never figure out all that shit on my own and get to enjoy all the scenery. heheh
