by e:n:i:g:m:a on 06/10/2004 17:21, 16 messages, last message: 06/15/2004 00:44, 1459 views, last view: 04/27/2024 04:09

Hi all,

I've finally gotten myself a website, and have five MP maps uploaded. I will be having four MP speedmaps and another ordinary MP map to upload really soon.

What do you all think of my maps? (ps: try DMSP in the factory map)

I actually played that online at some point, and it was a lot of fun. Good variety of areas.

Yeah, I gave them to a couple of friends of mine... They play online alot more than I do.

If you want, you can include it in the next release!

Oh yeah, Aard, can you add me to the listing of cube mappers sites?

My alias is enigma, not e:n:i:g:m:a... I think someone else has registered here with enigma... If no one else has then i'm going to re-register and use the alias w/o colons.

OK, so someone HAS registered with the alias "enigma." ohh poo

Well anyways, if & when you put my website into the list of Cube Mappers, plz use "enigma" and not "e:n:i:g:m:a"

#6: my thoughts on your maps

by makkE on 06/11/2004 10:29

I just looked at your maps. enig1 had a playable layout(though looking bland) and enig5 had some very nice architecture and lightning.
But all in all one can see you don´t play online much. The maps are all in all too dense , not much doging is possible, and many ceilings are to low for the jumpy players. also a lot of dead ends and confusing layouts.I´ve also seen a lot of windows where the sills were so low that I felt the urge to go through them but I couldn´t. maybe you should have released some betas before to get some feedback. I hope this doesn´t sound too destructive, but I´m afraid the maps won´t play good imho. Maybe you should play online a little more and pay attention to what creates interesting fights and what not. As i mentioned, some nice stuff in there (especially the large room in enig5), keep it up!

#7: closer look at enig5

by makkE on 06/11/2004 11:33

I´ve been taking a closer look at enig5 now. It´s the best of your maps, and it might become a good mp map. I like the secret teleport :).
Some things are still disturbing, though. There´s this long corridor where the arch is just too low, and it´s too dense imho. If you made it wider or carved some space out of the wall there, it would benefit play, because as it is now, if I were followed through this corridor, I had little chance to survive if my opponent used the rifle or machinegun.
Also the item placement ,especially ammo seems a bit random. I´d try to spread it a bit more and not put every type in one place (like on the rim in that open place with the pillar).
Rather try to place ammo according to the sourrounding area (like you already did by the megahealth), dense place->shotgun, rl ; larger areas-> mg and rifle
This will encourage players to move around a little more.
It lacks a yellow armour, too.
Why didn´t you put the green armor on that pillar left of it? That would incourage the player to go there, not only use it from the other side.
That rocket jump is a little too tricky imho. Texturing is a little repetitive too, especially that small winding corridor could use a diffrent layout. I´d recommend to revise it a little, and play test it.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! That is, after all, why I got a website :) . No, your comments aren't too distructive, I need some input before I can get some really good maps... And the funny thing is that on enig1, I just randomly picked a layout :D

Yeah, I don't play online much :D

About repetitive texturing... I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean... I tried to mix it up a little, but if I put different ones in, it just seemed to not work...

And what rocketjump? to the quad? you can get that thru the secret...

And the ammo placment was actually kinda random :( . I really wasn't thinking when I did that... lol

About the other maps, I know that enig3 (the alien one) doesn't play well at all... it's too dense.

And enig4 has too many dead ends :( . But it does have some interesting sniping and larger areas too. Have you looked at it?

And enig2 is wayyyy to big to play online with less than 12 or so players... but try it in dmsp mode... it's really good there :)

bout the texturing, it takes some practise and lots of tries to find something that fits together (at least for me) but it´s the least important.

bout the rocketjump: It would be cool if the pillars around the quad were gone which would make it easier to get in there...so one could react fast when seeing someone going for the secret passage, rocketjump up and get the quad before him and await him to come out of the teleport (thanx to the way the secret tele is done there would be enough time for that)- having two ways to get it is always fun...
seems like you didn´t think of it, but with the rockets placed just in front of it I thought that was the way.. found the secret later...

enig4: didn´t like it because it lacked connectivity. It was so hard to figure out how to reach that rocket ammo.. more of a sp-ish feel...

Well I'm just asking what was repettive about the textures... I know that I overused the sand and green bricks...

yepp that´s what was a little repetitive...but those green bricks are hard to fit with others...sand is ok :)

yes I tried enig2 in dmsp, and it took me 2 minutes to find my way out of the sewer..:S

well... did you rework on enig5 a little? with a little efford it would be a cool map..!

I've been working on my SP map...

I'll try and rework it as soon as I release my SP map and get back from vacation.

I also have four small duel/speedmaps that I will be uploading soon

And I have another FFA map (I think it's better than the others, less dense, more open, etc.)

Oh yeah, and the green brick is the only thing that I could find that fit with the burnt-out-building feel.
