One player option

by Al_Capone on 04/02/2002 06:47, 18 messages, last message: 04/14/2002 09:39, 1353 views, last view: 04/11/2024 05:47

The enamys in cube are way to hard and way to many, I got some suggestion, first of all, put them in other rooms, not where the player is located, second, they are way to accurate, some shots, say like the first should at least miss once in awhile, second, THERE'S TOO MANY and the time it take to cock the rifle/shotgun isn't going to make killing them quicker. And third, they move to fast, slow them down.

remember, the current SP is work in progress. Yes, they are fully accurate, which will change (not with randomness, but with "aiming lag", which is much better for gameplay).

They already move very slow, look at their speeds in the doc. I doubt I will make them slower.

Too many... I don't think so. It is of course up to the mapper how he places enemies, but if its up to me, the more the better!

Also, w.r.t. difficulty: I will implement skill levels (slower reactions etc) which should make gameplay easier, too.

It's on level 3 default and I'm using the maps it game with. It's hard to aim the mouse, shoot and move at the same time, is there a different way of moving your point of view ? I would think the speed would be the same of Doom or wolfenstin.

'It's hard to aim the mouse, shoot and move at the same time'

LOL

Have you ever tried rubbing your stomach and patting your head at the same time?

If moving and shooting is that hard, maybe an FPS is not your best choice of game ;)

I know when you start using the mouse-wasd combination it feels a little awkward, but stick with it, it really does give superior control. Everybody starts off a newbie.

Well first of all, wasd + mouse is your friend. The bots in sp are pretty stupid. The best way to defeat them is to find a corner you can duck around and not have anything spawn behind you, having ammo there would also be a help. Then all you have to do is dash around the corner, shoot some baddies, and run back to safety. Lather, rinse, repeat. Done properly, the only difference between level 3 and level 10 is that I usually get bored before finishing the latter.

Versus humans: don't move in a straight line, most people are terrible shots. And keep track of where big ticket items like quads and armour are.

I'm very helpful today :)

Me? No thanks. Between DI and getting my own GBA game off the ground, I have enough to work on.

#13: Joystick Support

by underworldfan on 04/10/2002 05:55

I think i allready posted this before, bit i am asking again.

It must take all of 10 minutes to implement joystick support along the lines of Quake? or is it hard to do?

I know most seem to prefer mouse+keys, but surely you can do it for the 3 people out there (including me!) who like playing their FPS action with a joystick.

It would be great if you could =)
