ehhhh, are you sure? it's happening on both my work and personal PC. the former is an HP and the latter i built (AMD 64 on an MSI K8V delux). both running XP pro, both using different sound chips (on-board) and both never had any problem with cube until the update. i've only noticed it on that map and there's nothing in the console that gives any clue. i'm not familier with how to run in a debug mode, but i'll be happy to if instructed on how to do so.

oh, come to think of it, the sound on the HP is dissabled entirely, so cube generates all kinds of "failer to load sound..." errors, or something to that effect. this is the result of dumping the OEM OS and installing XP pro. still, cube always ran fine.

i just built the system i'm having the memory error problem on. i never really set up BIOS properly. anyway, i ran memtest+ and had problems, so i adjusted memory parameters accordingly. since then, there hasn't been any problems with CUBE.

got the error message too, also only in multiplayer, using a hercules fortissimo 3 soundcard / ati rad9000pro-128mb en 512 ddr
maybe if everyone gave their specs, we could see the common factor?

I got an out of memeory error while editing (but I think it was FFA tho), And I believe that I have also gotten one on SP. I think that it was on Spentron's Monster Machine but I don't remember if I even got one, it happens rarely...

PC: ATI Radeon 9000 w/ 64 MB DDR RAM, AMD Athlon (Not XP) @ 1000 MHz, 256 MB SDRAM

so so far there is a ati gfx card in both cases.
but isn't there a way to set the memory amount for cube , in the parameters in the bat or so ?

i'm getting it in custom maps and in 'so far) one map that came with the game

cube doesn't use some fixed memory pool. If you get "out of memory" from cube, that means that the system malloc() returned NULL, which only happens normally when you have exhausted all your virtual memory (unlikely for cube under normal circumstances), or a driver has screwed things to cause this.
