need help with monsters!

by Spartacus on 05/08/2004 04:36, 6 messages, last message: 05/19/2004 03:27, 1430 views, last view: 05/05/2024 08:02

When I first got cube, it worked just fine. But now, when I place monsters they don't show up during actual gameplay. I can't use any of the console commands either.

#1: did anything change?

thats weird... did you get a new video card or a virus or something? in edit mode you have to press "e" twice to make them show up. did you delete anything? are you unable to bring up the console "~" or do the commands ("waterlevel 5") not do anything?

set the game mode to singleplayer. just type in "sp mapname" instead of "map mapname" when you load a map.

I'm not sure if this has been resolved or not, but I have a monster-bug workaround.
In edit mode, you add a monster, switch out of edit mode, and it's not there right?
Well, if you add the monster, switch out of edit mode, then go back into edit mode immediately voila! the monsters appear. At this point you need to save the map or the monsters will disappear again.
I think this has something to do with the way cube loads maps, but I haven't been bothered trying to track it down in the debugger.

You need to save the map or it will not be saved.

"I think this has something to do with the way cube loads maps, "

It loads maps is how ;) ... it can be a slight "gotcha" but I would not consider any of this a bug. Don't finish the map or die without saving the map.

Now, being able to savegame while dead is just silly ...

It did that some, but there are good reasons to savemap other than that, so I moved into the advanced stage of gotcha's, accidently backing up through the console commands to the wrong one and loading rather than saving the map ... and that IS user error!

In a sense that is a bug though, since one feature of Cube is to try things easily, shouldn't need mentally a seperate "try mode" seperated by a savemap. However, reloading the map when you die is kind of essential for multiplayer, so any exception would have to be specific to SP, and it's probably complicated.
