Cube & Cube 2 FORUM

Four, a new multiplayer map. made for teamplaying

by macher_ on 04/18/2004 01:29, 57 messages, last message: 05/17/2004 17:38, 16252 views, last view: 05/19/2024 00:25

Hi, I've made a map for cube called Four.

It's a map made for teamplaying instagib or deathmatch. the name four comes from the four fortresses in the map with water between. If Cube in future versions support different spawn points for different teams I'll add that. The textures is maybe a little bit boring but I've made so many maps with egyptian style and future style wouldn't fit in.

You can see screenshots and download the map from my site: medlem.spray.se/macher/hemsa/default.htm (I know, the site isn't the best but it works). Please comment it and tell med what i can do for the next version.

Happy playing!//macher

doesn't work for me either (the titlebar says "four,a team map", or something like that, but the page doesn't look like it has your map on it) I look forward to playing it though, sounds kinda fun, maybe if cube (or a mod) gets CTF, you can add that too.

find the problem, the page is made with word. Therefore it has a lot of crappy code. You can see screenshots and so on but the adress to the map is http://medlem.spray.se/macher/hemsa/download-filer/four.cgz

Forgot to say that you must "save target as"

#5: good map

by jcdpc on 04/18/2004 13:57

Good map, very simple, but that's ok. If you put a health (or boost) in the spots where the stairs go into the water (along the sides) it would be beatable in DMSP, too. And the start locations are a little awkward, but it's a good map.

I've got the trick,:) just pick up all you can until the monsters start spawning, then swim down to the bottom of the "pool" and shoot the monsters as they are coming towards you under water.

I've just finsihed rev 2 and there are some major changes.
- healthboost and yellow armor where the stairs go down
- "higher" stairs
- not as deep pool so you can't hide there.
- the ankara is not under water anymore
- and more

forgot to upload it. the adress is: http://medlem.spray.se/macher/hemsa/download-filer/four2.cgz
and you still need to "save target as"

Played it again. Much better. The only thing I would change, if you want to do anything else, is make each fotress with a different set of textures, or put different colored lights around each one.. If you want to emphaze the team thing more I would light it light this

R-red light
B-blue light
~ - water
o - quad
____________
| R | ~ |B|
|~~~~~o~~~~|
|___ ~ __|
| B | ~ |R|
_____________

#9: do you have other maps?

by jcdpc on 04/18/2004 22:35

Have you made any other maps? make your website better and post them. Don't use Word, learn html, it's really easy, or if you want, you can send me your stuff (via email), and I'll build you a site.

The four fortresses has already different coloured lightning :) but the different textures is on the way. Next map is the same idea but as you said, only two teams, to fortresses instead of one and also different architecture so it can be remade for ctf later :). I've got a nice idea about how to choose team and spawnpoint in the start of the game :)

Thanks for the comments, they've helped me a lot! :)

I gotta go. I'll be back around 8. I'm hoping your map will be done by then. Like I said, your maps good. you should have a site to go with it. go to http://hotwired.lycos.com/webmonkey to learn html.

Don't feel obligated to learn html. If all you want is a simple web page with few graphcs, a decent wysiwyg editor is all you need.

The only decent HTML WYSIWYG editor I've seen so far is Dreamweaver. But that ain't cheap.

Ï've done lots of sites by raw html code. I just wanted to do a site real fast and I've also wanted to test Words html abilities. but now, I've realized that it's better to make the site in arachophilia and stuff.

I'll make a new site when I've got time (probably this week).

We were talking about _HTML_ editors. Therefore, everything that generates a web page which doesn't pass the W3C validator at http://validator.w3.org/ (e.g. Frontpage) is not an HTML editor =)

And aracophilia is an html editor :). The only thing it does is highlighting the code :). You can also insert links, frames etc via buttons :). Try it out! It's one of my favourites. http://www.arachnoid.com .

maybe we should stop posting OT now?

Well I guess Notepad isn't an HTML editor then ;) ... user have any responsibility here?

I use Front Page (Express) mostly need to learn what to watch out for and still need to know what can be done ... but it wouldn't be usable without the direct HTML edit feature.

"Have you made any other maps? make your website better and post them. Don't use Word, learn html, it's really easy, or if you want, you can send me your stuff (via email), and I'll build you a site."'

I didn' saw your post before now, I'm terribly sorry for no reply. Thanks for the offer but right now I'm building a new site and I'll update it soon!

Yes I've made a lot of maps but they was erased after a harddisk crash :(. This is my first official release, but I'll release more soon!

In fact I made the first verison of this mapo in an hour when we needed a fun map to play on a LAN :). But the latest relese took longer time. the third an probably last will have different textures, better architecture and different architecture styles on the fortresses but not as much so it will make the playing experience different with different teams.
