Okay, first of all - forget localhost. Just join a game or play single-player. Second, you don't need new maps - most servers come with them, and if not then you can snatch the map isntantly with the /getmap command once you've joined the game.

Now, the follow dood - the problem is server side. You don't use the fix. The server does. Most of the servers have not used the fix, so most of them suck. To identify buggy server: look at the gametype. All the bugged servers are stuck in co-op edit and are listing a false player count. If a server is instagib or ffa/default, then its updated. If the player count is non-zero, then its worth joining. Have fun. Remember, you've got the gauntlet available in instagib.

I'm on a lan, I also have mozilla and a cable connection (don't know if that affects anything) I have a couple of problems involving multiplayer.

when I run server.bat I says it can't connect to the master server. which is bad, but shouldn't it still let me host on my LAN? when i try to connect localhost from cube, it doesn't find it, and no one on the lan can join it either.
also
In cube, when i try to update the server list, I crash.

great game engine though, lot easier to use and just as powerfull as most other ones out there.

localhost is an alias for your own computer. Connect localhost only works for the computer running the server, everyone else needs the internal ip.

still can't get it to work

I started the server
I started Cube
I pressed ~
I typed in connect localhost
It said it was attempting to connect like 5 times then failed to connect

maybe its an engine bug, but more likely im just stupid.

jcdpc... are you on the computer hosting the server? or are you on a computer that is next to the server *or on the same lan...* what pushplay's saying is... localhost is a word derived from 127.0.0.1 (which is same thing), anyways, it's just an internal address, like a tcp/ip mac :-), anyways, what you need to do *if your on windows* is go to Start>Run

type in command
when opened, type in ipconfig, the 1st set of numbers it shows should be yours, 2nd is the mask, and 3rd is the DNS, what u want is the IP address, write that address down and send it to all of your friends, they go into cube, and type in connect IP_ADDRESS *where IP address is that IP...*

I've made a decent map for cube (not very complex, but a good layout) and a terribly butched version of the Cube engine to go with it (I had to make it under 5 meg and made a few minor changes (new sounds, and a funny cat skin for the hellpig) It's posted on my website www.bytebackcc.com/paul.

Yeah, who said Linux isn't easy? ;)

For my laptop i still unzip Cube in a FAT32 partition so i've the same Cube config and content for both OSes :)
This prevents using noexec on the FAT partition, but makes things very easy for games/apps that runs on both platforms

I can't connect to the serverhost at all, it just sits there and I can't do anything. Why is this?

Does being a g3 have anything to do with it?

He didn't say Linux, he said FOSS.
Well anyway. I don't want it to be easy. It won't be tru then. =)
