I believe you can use alpha on map models, see the chain link fence model, but not as a "regular" texture.

Be careful using alpha on models, depth sorting is not done for that case, so use it very sparingly.

Depth sorting works okay for alpha blend, where it's just on or off, but works very poorly for alphatest, which is where you get your variation - full alpha, solid, and shades in between. It looks okay as long as the only thing behind it is level geometry, but it may not work that way for everyone. Best to avoid.

Just a quick little question:
When editing the heightfield (after pressing H) for cubes near water, the water is removed. Is there any known way to keep the water from being removed?
Thanks.

I think he meant "scrolling" the mouse (wheel).

You just need to make sure that everything is just how you want it before plonking down some water :)

Does anyone know of a way to select a cube at some cartesian coordinate without using the cursor?
Thanks.

Nevermind about the last question. I'm assuming the script does not exist, so I'm going to write one.

Hello!
Im very interest in one thing:
Sauerbraten is great and fast game and open source (i can make my own game without beginning from zero). But i need to ask one thing which so i think is problem - sauerbraten\'s ingame editor is very poor and hard to use. Very easy to use some 3rd side editor like blender or something. But not only cube\'s ingame editor! Its pleague and hell!!!
Please answer me! Can i hope on hew editor or game support for this?

Like any good tool, give it a week. I think you'll find that you can crank out maps much, much faster than using something like blender.

Cube/Cube 2 is all about the unique geometry format and the inbuilt editor therein. If you're looking for fancy tools and/or a game creation toolkit try CrystalSpace or Ogre3D, or if you want a BSP format, use a BSP engine like iD tech 3.
When choosing Cube 2 you should be looking for lightweight and clean code with a builtin content creation ability that runs on a variety of hardware and platforms. It's not about what you can't do, it is about what you can do and the creative paths its minimalism makes you take.

i\'m new to Sauerbraten (a few weeks) and i\'m pretty interested in the whole mapping thing, lol, but have a few problems:
a) why can\'t i save my maps, I type \"/savemap MYNEWMAP\" and it says that it cannot write to \"/packages/MYNEWMAP.ogz\"
..i\'m using linux if that helps.
b) why don\'t the weapons (ie: rockets and machinegun) ammunition work? All other entities work, except \"quaddamage\" any weapon ammunition, and \"yellowarmour\" and \"healthboost\".
c) how do you create curved walls? and how do you lower the minimum grid size?
d) are there other mapmodels available for download?
thanks, and sorry for the stupidity of some of the questions. lol

Welcome! Enjoy your stay!
A) Check that you have permissions set to write as well as read in the /packages/base directory.
B) Could you describe what you're doing a bit more precisely? I'm not too clear what's going on yet.
C) Hold down G and scroll with the mousewheel. Curved walls are simply an illusion created by judicious use of the grid (if you're new to the concept, I find that a lot of people are helped if they trace a circle onto graph paper and then redraw a slightly larger circle using lines that go from gridpoint to gridpoint).
D) Yes, check out Quadropolis first, and then there are a number other sites scattered about.
