The background image, or skybox, can be changed by putting "skybox foldername/skyboxname" in the cfg file. To make the glass reflect it's surroundings, put a "envmap" entity right in front of the entity. Be sure to read up on the docs about the usage of envmaps.
Question for Aard/Eihrul: I went looking in the docs for a link to give him about the skybox command, and found none. Where is it hidden?

packages/base/ holds most of the maps in cube and sauerbraten.
Eihrul:
I'm surprised that that particular command wasn't around, seeing as the command is as old as the hills. I did a cursory look for other commands that weren't documented, but didn't find anything... if I get time later I'll do a more in-depth search.

If you are on a Mac...try looking in username/library/application support/sauerbraten/packages/base...
Also, don't forget to save your autoexec.cfg before you get the latest edition. (if you've wisely created one that is)

Actually, wasn't /skybox made recently, being split from /loadsky? Or was it the other way around?

I'm faily sure skybox came first... the oldest reference I can find of it was in http://cubeengine.com/docs/history.html , under [2001_10_04].

Yeah. Loadsky was split into skybox and skyspin recently in CVS I believe.

No, the /skybox command is extremely recent... considering I've never used it

ah, I was mistaken. Loadsky did come first, I just didn't take the time to look into my old cube cfgs. =P What I get for being so lazy.
Though KillHour, I'm confused about your statement, "considering I've never used it"... what exactly does that mean? There are tons of things that date all the way back to early cube days that I still haven't had occasion to use.

Hi
I really enjoy Sauerbraten with my friends, but we think that it is missing a game mode that would allow to edit the map, but with no special power ( no fly, no invincibility, solid walls and roofs ).
What do you think about it ?

How exactly would you edit without being able to fly around? And how would you focus with some n00b who keeps shooting you as you're trying to get that pillar just right?

Since new cubes don't displace players when made on top of them, you'd see a lot of people falling through the ground.

Hm. This mod would require some added features to fix the obvious problems, but isn't that always the case with new suggestions? Hohoho: get into the code and add the necessary changes, if you do it well enough, it might even have a chance to make it into the official release. Or more realistically, you can create a mod of the game where you modify the C-code directly (there is a helpful thread about that recently posted elsewhere on the forum BTW, sorry for being a lazyass not looking up the URL for it, but look for "Creating your first MOD")
Suggestions: when adding cubes, the cube does not immediately appear but instead it "grows" out (in an animation containing 8 steps as if someone were using the scroll wheel while pressing 'F' in edit mode) and any player in the way for the cube is displaced. Similarly when removing cubes, they do not completely disappear, but instead they are shrunk in steps.
Also, it could be wise to limit the size of cubes the players. Perhaps could be used as a crude level-system? When you are doing well, you go to the next level, which means you can create twice as big cubes :-). The real good players become "gods" who can play around with cubes as big as one 1/8 of the world but by at that stage, the game is pretty much over as those gods are quite obvious winners ;-).
Or you have a 'weapon' like the 'Phys tool' in Half Life 2 but it is a "build tool" instead. Point at walls to create holes or add cubes, to add textures and deform corners.
Regarding not being able to fly, well, point the 'build tool' to the ground and then "grow" a couple of cubes under your feet to create a pillar on whose top you are located.
Just yet another $0.02.

go to an empty server with your friends, get everyone to type /map [any map] mode 1
Then you can go into edit mode and start messing around or type /newmap to make a new one.
