The SVN version (a subversion of Sauerbraten) is still in progress as far as I've heard...

I honestly thought this game was dead since there has been no dev activity for 2 straight years...

more like 5 years, luckily there are still some players who are loyal to the game otherwise it probably would be :/

5 years, yes. Seems about right. The last official version is from early 2013. We absolutely have 2018 already.

And the last edit on the SVN is from late 2015. Holy crap, I did not realize we have 2020 already :o

I think the reason why Sauer is still alive is because it's a little different than other open source fps games. Most are trying to "modernize" into a combination of Quake 4 and UT it looks like, whereas Sauer pretty much sticks to the original Quake 1 style in terms of graphics, feel and gameplay. Also the fact that it uses it's own engine (and a very unique one at that) is probably keeping it alive as well.

doesnt mean i cant dream of a game with the engine of tesseract, features and framework of red eclipse, gameplay of sauer, and size of assault cube! =D

It's one thing to dream of such a thing, another thing to call development dead, though.

All that Frosty mentioned is completely possible, if that is the main goal of a project.

Like I've said before, I know this seems strange, but I think Sauer development needs to end. Eihrul is the only one that I know of working on it, and he's busy with Tesseract. Sauer has been hanging like a loose end since Trooper edition imo. The right thing happened with Cube 1: once development of Cube 2 started, Cube 1 soon wrapped up with a strong final release, then all focus was shifted to Cube 2. I think the same thing needs to happen here with Sauer and Tesseract. I can find reviews of Sauerbraten from back in the CTF edition era, and at that point, Sauer ruled open source fps games by a longshot until Nexuiz Classic came along. IMO, Cube's devs have not been really competitive in the open source game 'market', preferring to do something non-traditional and unique. What do you guys think?

end development once and for all so we no longer have to hold out a sliver of hope!

What I mean is, let Eihrul move on to focus on Tesseract, Instead of asking for Sauer updates. NO amount of Sauer updates will bring it into this 'era' of open source fps games. Cube was the best of its kind in 2005. Sauerbraten was at the top in 2008-9. Red Eclipse is making a really good attempt to modernize a Cube 2 game, but it will be limited so long as no one moves to Tesseract. Now I'm not trying to argue that we NEED to modernize, but I recommend we leave Sauer as-is and modernize with Tesseract. Just my 2+ cents

It seems you both missed the goals of Sauerbraten.

Just to get this straight: you define those last couple posts as "hope"? I don't wanna see you in your hopeless state then...... :P
