...what if the person just uses a combination of high skill and luck? Then you kick without reason.

The best solution would be a human looking at it.

That's going to be a game breaker for regular gamers! There's really no working solution other than active monitoring of the server!
I'm looking into have camping part of map layouts as diversity yet balanced for good gameplay on My map cycle!

Damn bot never sees trolley cart campers! :"P

I am not sure how, but somehow they realized a quite effective and actually rather precise camper-protection for the LMS mode of Nexuiz...
And instead of kickbanning him, it just made *SPLORT* and he suicided with the message "Die Camper!".

Reading the code, understanding and finally translating it to Sauer may be quite tricky, though.
Nexuiz used to be free, but it seems like THQ bought it, so I guess you won't get the code anyways.

There once were certain servers which told you to stop camping when your camera wasn't moving outside a certain angle (which is a quiet accurate way)...

I would like to ban all servers with that "feature" on master server.

Agreed, anti-camp servers irritate by adding extra arbitrary games rules.

If you don't like a camper, hows about just shooting them? (though personally I prefer coming up behind em and chainsawing them...)

Anti-camp-camping, that's really fun. You're basically camping too, but only hunt for campers.

Works pretty well on maps like venice.

It was Illfonic, and they purchased a private license to the existing sourcecode, which was immediately forked and normal development continued under the Xonotic title. Illfonic owns no newer Nexuiz (now Xonotic) code, they were permitted to privately license the now-dated Nexuiz code and their additions, which they then proceeded to not use because they got a serious backlash from the community, mostly because they tried to obfuscate and not release the GPL code. I think the big issue, besides the 'owner' of the code doing no development in years, was that there were parts of the engine which were forced legally open (GPLv3 or equivalenet CC license), such as graphical assets or something, which were relicensed by the legally recognized owner.

The original Nexuiz code is still GPLv2 or LGPLv3, as is Xonotic.

IDK, I just remembered that I played a few rounds Nexuiz ages ago and that it had a protection similar to the here desired one.

When I fed "nexuiz" to Google I came to some site with fat THQ logo.

#10: Anti-Camping Suggestion

by Pyccna on 03/15/2013 04:35

Just a suggestion, there is an old FPS out there that had a system that specifically detected campers and displayed a message onscreen saying "[playername] is hiding!" and slapped a waypoint on them. Maybe a programmer (not me!) could put something like that to detect if players don't move a certain distance in a given time span?

Just a suggestion!

Well, that's a far better suggestion than the current kick/spectator mods. If it was ever added then I vote we also add the keyboard/waypoint icon above peoples heads when they're typing...

Thanks, there's only one problem I can foresee happening with the camp-waypoint system: if you're playing CTF, Collect, or Capture & you're guarding the flag/base (bots like to do this) & you get slapped with a waypoint.

Although that could be solved with some sort of "safe zone" volume around the flag/base spawn entity...

If only I was a programmer :/

For that "keyboard/waypoint icon above peoples heads when they're typing":

When it is just an icon, the average player probably wouldn't give a darn and shoot anyways which makes it pretty useless.

When it adds some kinda protection which makes you immune to shots, it could be abused as semi-godmode. You can still adjust yaw and pitch with the mouse when you type. Just open the chat line and wait. Once a target shows, aim on it, smack enter and left mouse button after it.
You could even improve it when you make a short sleep which directly opens the chat line again, such as /bind MOUSE1 [attack; sleep 50 [saycommand]].

not sure how this all would be possible without actually modding the client too?

It might work in some team modes which use waypoints anyways. Then the person is marked like a flag or skull carrier.

Might be confusing though and does not help in modes such as TDM.

I think if it\'s possible to put it into the cfg files there could be camping maps and anti-camping maps so both sides would be happy.
