Creating player models for Cube2

by vinny on 02/04/2013 03:33, 7 messages, last message: 03/29/2014 10:45, 3856 views, last view: 05/03/2024 22:27

Are there any tutorials on this topic? Any example skeleton and list of needed animations? Where are frames defined for each animation scene? Are animations played based on names or frames?

Better yet:

The rest of the infos on the wiki are helpful too.

Otherwise... if you are actually looking into doing models for the Cube2 engine in general you can also try and ask on the new Red Eclipse modeling forums:

#3: mapmodel configuration

After you've actually made the (player)model, you'll ask yourself the question:

How to import it into Cube Engine 2?

Well, here is your answer, a list of all commands (with explanations) which could be used to configure the model.

What about ragdolls, like Red Eclipse? Any documentation on the updated IQM format, instead of outdated MD3 and MD2?

Which animations are needed?

#5: problem with md2 models

by Toddathan on 10/04/2013 23:24

The md2 models I import are missing some faces. I export them from Blender 2.49. At first I thought it was that I was creating the blender file with a later version of blender and making it into a md2 with 2.49, but even if the model is made in 2.49 it won't work. 90% of the faces are there. Using an intel core duo mac with snow leopard. Any ideas?

Thanks,
Todd

normally those problems are cause by incorrect normals, (normals facing into the model) try viewing the normals to make sure they are faced the correct way and reverse the incorrect ones, cube only reads one side of the normals (not double sided normals-unless specified - idb).

All Cube Engine 2 games support ragdolls. However, probably not for the .md2 and .md3 format as Quake wasn't using it back in the day of Quake 2 and Quake 3 Arena (and I don't think eihrul liked a hacky way to implement it on a quite outdated format anyway).
Which animations are there? Just check out yourself by using /animoverride -1 ingame or read it's anims.cfg (or a file named like that) of the model.
