by eihrul on 01/06/2013 22:54, 81 messages, last message: 07/31/2013 07:00, 60546 views, last view: 03/29/2024 10:05

The highlights...

New game features - 45 new multiplayer maps, better/stronger/faster Ogro, new sounds, collect gamemodes, international character sets, faster cubescript interpreter, improved minimap.

New server features - admins/auths/masters, server-side map rotations, teamkill autokick.

New editing features - multiple water/lava/glass material types, sunlight, improved remip, copy/paste brushes.

And too much other stuff to list here, see the history page for details:

#22: Re: server side maprotations

by Papriko on 01/09/2013 21:59, refers to #18

Yes, that was the point. I had the impression Zamwa is against the password option. (in post 15: "My question to you is why should a sever not switch back automatically to open-mode when unused! All severs deserve this functionality I think!")

I just tried to provide a possible scenario where it makes sense that a server does not "switch back automatically to open-mode when unused".

#23: Justice to Collect Differences

by Gambit on 01/10/2013 06:01

Hello, and congrats on a great release!

Having not following sauerbraten for quite some time, I was curious as to what's changed. So I dug up my old diffing script and now present to you the commands and variables that changed since Justice edition.

Justice to Collect commands:
http://pastebin.com/9cfFTjMa
Justice to Collect variables:
http://pastebin.com/WnDff5kM

However, upon inspection, these lists are INACCURATE. The iqm/md2/md3/md5/obj/smd model commands that are reported removed are actually still there; in the source, they are no longer individual preprocessor directives but rather constructed using templates. Similarily, the waterfallcolour/lavacolour variables are defined with multiple directives to support water2/lava3/etc. Nevertheless, the things defined the usual ways pop up - I'm just not sure how many var/cmds exist in a non-usual way now. I might rewrite the diff. script to autopopulate them, but for now, enjoy! :)

>So, now the server is filled with random noobs. You wanna make a clan meeting. What now? Ask them to leave? Probably will be ignored. Kick them? Too impolite.
Just change gamemode from insta to ffa, or coop edit on empty map. Most of them will leave instantly. Then change it back. :D

Still no nice solution. Virtually anything you can do about it is too annoying for either them or you. Permanent private mastermode as offered by the password option remains the best solution for everyone.

Perhaps making it an optional feature for Sauers next release will change that belief in a jiffy! ;")

Or you could try to boycott it by simply not playing servers which use it.

Your right it's a crappy idea! I realized a modder would be able to mod a sever to display false information about the number of players on a sever! I'm sure the developers have better ideas to use!

#30: 2013-01-14 patch

by eihrul on 01/15/2013 00:29

There's a patch up for anyone who downloaded an earlier dated release (from 01-04 to 01-07) here:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/sauerbraten/files/sauerbraten/2013_01_04/patch_01_04_to_01_14.zip/download

Unzip inside the directory you unpacked/installed Sauer into and let it overwrite the files.

Linux/Windows packages on the site have been updated to already include this patch, so if you download the release dated 2013-01-14, you do not need the patch. Mac release is not updated yet to include it but will be soon.

Rough summary of addressed issues to determine if you really need the patch or not:

* fix build issues with clang
* fix building of master server
* add teamcolortext/teamcolorfrags vars for disabling team-colored game and frag messages if desired
* workaround for minimap not showing properly if the map changes while the game is minimized
* adjusted server browser columns width to avoid twitching
* fix ctftkpenalty not working
* fix issues with the @ character appearing in names
* fix blob shadows showing on the underside of geometry
* fix kickbans not banning
* fix clip/waypoint bugs in damnation
* fix clip on phosgene and nucleus
* fix map credits in eternal_valley
* fix noclip causing shadows
* bump score limit in collect modes to 50
* fix spawnwait handling in server
* fix ctf map listing
* include missing server-init.cfg

#31: lockups

by thisguy on 01/15/2013 17:51

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I'm having some trouble with the new version.

I get a very intermittent lockup where the screen freezes for a split second at random intervals, even the sound will stop. There doesn't seem to be any consistency to it, I can have two identical computers using the same connection and one will do it and the other will not, same map. The next time, the other computer will do it.

I tried changing graphics settings(running up to 200 fps) and it doesn't seem to make a difference, same with ping. V-sync on or off. I also tried installing the patch and still saw the lockups.

Intel Xeon e5620, Nvidia GTX560, 12GB RAM. Windows 7 64 bit.

FWIW I don't see this on my home computer.(AMD A6-3670K, 4GB RAM, Ubuntu 12.10)

#34: new release -> new maps -> new video

by Hansbert on 01/16/2013 12:00

With the subtle redesign of sauerbraten.org the video got a more prominent place. As far as I remember, our mighty creators said as soon as a better video appears, it will be featured there. So this is a mere reminder that with all those new and impressive maps, maybe someone wants to make a new video?

The SVN version uses a different location nowadays.

Yeah, that is really odd, but sourceforge renamed their svn locations. So you need to go to the website and get the new svn url and download that, previous svn setups won't get the new updates.

#37: collect on sauerbraten.org

by rabe on 01/18/2013 16:16

When I open sauerbraten.org, the page still shows the Justice Edition downloads. Is it the cache or cookie or what? Or just not updated? o0

You seem to have to the worst cache ever?

But, you can go to http://sourceforge.net/projects/sauerbraten/files/sauerbraten/2013_01_04/ and get the file directly from there.

I got the file before checking sauerbraten.org, i was just wondering. If people, who dont check quad regularly, got the worst cache ever also ...
dunno, the site just looks like nothing happened.

I just downloaded the new release sauerbraten_2013_01_19_collect_edition_windows.exe from sourceforge. While extracting a virus was found in rpg.exe. When downloading the source from the svn repository also from sourceforge, I got the same error message. Is this only a false positive or got the virus somehow into the repository?

#41: Campaign DMSP map

by CHmux on 01/20/2013 10:55

Hi,
I think thereĀ“s a minor bug in DMSP campaigns. After finishing one level, the next next map is not in DMSP mode, but in FFA-mode with no bots.
Did work on justice edition.
