We\'re currently looking for team members to start an indie company that makes hack n\' slash style RPGs in vein of Legend of Zelda, Fable, Kingdom Hearts, and Prince of Persia. We currently need
2d art - Textures, HUDs, item and character icons
3d modeler - Work under character designer, make hostile characters, environments, etc
Programmers - recode with our own twists the engine in visual C++ or C
Voice actors - Self-explanatory
Concept art - Help design visual aids for 2d and 3d artists

Well, I'm not a terrible spriter, and I can create 3D meshes pretty well. My 3D textures suck, though, so you'll still need a texturer for the meshes.
I can also VO if you like.
Loved OOT, would love to see something just as awesome from Indie devs!

Thanks AlternateLives!
Even though it's always a matter of commitment and motivation with an indie company I want to help with voice acting, concept art and software resourcing! I got a great vision of ideas I'd like to share just supply us an email LexyJester!

I could potentially give a hand with the 2D art side. What you've asked for is pretty much the kinda thing that I do.
If you wish to contact me you can do so via IRC:
irc.quakenet.org @ #descent, #painkiller, #ibh
irc.gamesurge.net @ #fpsbanana #mys
Or /query Matuka or /query MatukaLaptop

Hey guys, I'm glad to see people actually jumped on this. Here's what I need you to do, I need you to email alexanderjmonty@hotmail.com with what you're looking to do and I'll give you a kind of test assignment of material we need done for our first test level. Here's a little overview for that.
Zamwa, I would need you to first go through the files and delete everything that isn't going to be used in the game. A detailed list will be provided when you email.
Suicicer, if you want to play test, I'll need your email and when we have anything worth playtesting, I'll send it to you and I'll want you to make me a list of everything that needs fixing before we continue.
Razgritz, we have a lot of story writers already but if you want to playtest, you could probably still accomplish the same goal, so the same goes to you.
Alternate Lives, email me and I'm going to start just giving you some basic rough ideas for you to mesh out. We especially need an environmental mesh designer at the moment, but we'll just give you choices out of what we need done. We use Blender at the moment so anything that can edit those files is fair game.
ItsMatuka, email me and I'll send you some models for you to add textures to. Again we have Blender so anything that can edit that works.
As of right now, we are still looking for somebody prepared to code new systems into the game. We are also looking for a level designer to take the time and design in-depth worlds for us to place this into.

Um.... hate to say it, but someone has to: http://cube.wikispaces.com/How+not+to+start+a+mod
More specifically, given all the things you ask others to do, what will you do?

Myself, I do voice acting, music, some very minor coding (plan on doing all the cfg related work myself) and I have a guy who's been doing 3D modeling, textures, concepts, character and environment concept design, etc etc by himself at the moment and I also have somebody doing level editing. I did read the article mentioning basically, "Do it yourself" in boldface every line or so and that has been taken into consideration, but I probably won't abide. The scale I want to make this on requires a slightly larger team than just me, especially since I'm not too good at coding or graphics.

Finding a capable programmer here may be a tall order, those of us who are actually around are already working on a handful of projects already.

Hey, I understand. I\'ll hold out until I can find the right guy to make the releasable version of the game and in the meantime anything anybody else on the project can do and is willing to do will be done. I posted this so I can make a team that will work, I don\'t care who does what as long as it ends up with everybody satisfied and my goals met. :)

Hi, I would be happy to help you with the coding. I don't have much experience with Cube engine but I have experience with graphics in general. I can dive into the code right now and start studying it. I sent you e-mail as well so just let me know if you are interested.

Have you looked at media.ryzom.com, they have kindly released their art assets with a Creative Commons License Attribution-Share Alike. Its a 1.5gb download, but the torrent is pretty fast. The 2D graphics are of a very high quality and there are many animated Max models, made with Physique. I have only had a quick look but there are many humanoids, animal/monster models, including sea monsters.
I quickly tried to export an animated model as md5, but the exporter crapped out, exporting as smd the meshes were lost, but animations retained, and as Milkshape models the skeleton and mesh were OK but the animation suffered from mucked up influences.
In short you can probably use them but you would have to rerig either the exported Milkshape model or do something similar with an smd. Someone better with max may have another way.

Questions:
* Are you using Cube Engine? If so, are you planning on remaining open source and to what extent?
* What is your development model? Who decides the architecture, is it crowd sourced or totalitarian?
* What are your intended goals for the project?
* How will you be distributing the game?
* What are your future plans, if any?
