Venice is ruined due to hackers. Can this be stopped if not i have no alternative than to stop using this game. There has to be a way for this silly crap to be stopped.

I think what they mean to say is that instateam venice tends to be a honeypot for troublemakers and immature people.

More experienced players, especially authers (= moderators) with the ability to kick those players, tend to avoid that particular server and instead play the other modes like insta ctf or regen capture or what-not, so cheaters are usually dealt with more quickly on those servers.

It's not an easy problem to solve, and we've already tried over the years to deal with it in what ways we could. The result is the auth system, but, of course, even the authers can't be everywhere at all times.

Well, people with auth tend to be ordinary people with a little extra power at hand, doesn't mean they go around patrolling the servers. =P

Actually the auth system is getting on my nerves. It already happened a bunch of times to me that someone came in while I was editing with others, used auth to get master, made newmap, made sendmap and then simply vanished. How can such crap happen at all? I thought auth codes are just given to mature people?

Or another guy. Actually he was nice, I kept playing with him, everything fine. Just his cousin was a douchebag. Permanently spamming, mapwrecking, building male mating organs and swastikas all over the map or short: a troll.
The problem was that I could not kick him! Every time I tried to, the other guy (with the auth code) said that I either have to clearbans or he\'ll do it.
I gave the troll several chances and he fucked up all of em, but I still had to let him in every time, just because his cousin had such an oh so great auth code!

Of course not all people are like that, but somehow I see the auth system mostly when it gets abused and not when it is used to make the world a nicer place as it\'s always told.

There are indeed some people not worthy of their auth code, but unless names are told, nothing can be done.

That's what I am going to do. Next time I gotta report the people.

Yes, please report such people.
If somebody uses auth there will be a massage in the chat/console

xxx claimed master as 'yyy'

The yyy part is the important one that you have to remember. That is the Name that belongs to the auth key and can't be changed like the in game Nick.

Are you sure they had auth? Maybe they just had admin password to that server.

If people are abusing auth, report their auth name to me (shown in the "game-name claimed master as 'auth-name'" message) and what they did, and I will take care of them. Note that only if the "game-name claimed master as 'auth-name'" is shown did they actually use auth. If they merely claimed master without is showing the auth-name, then they did not actually use auth.

+1 to Eihrul

I blame noob admins who abandon severs with weak passwords! You can bet admins sometimes use simple words even three letters with auth just to quickly pwn some evil noob! Only in the end the sever becomes easy lovable crackable... ownable!

Even better than that, I saw a server a few weeks ago that actually told you what the admin password was when you joined the server. Or this happens a lot too, I will join a server thats locked and the people there will just be carrying on a conversation about the passwords like they are in private or like they never saw me enter the server, so I'll be like hey guys, you might want to change passwords now. Its funny what people do without thinking. But to the other point, if its auth abuse, it will be dealt with I'm sure. If its just master/admin abuse, well, kids will be kids.

That was actually how I saw they're auth-masters and not admins. They claimed master with a purple username (in the server message, not in the gamestats).

Maybe some kind of trust-based auth?

That's basically what auth is based on, but some people got their own without enough of it. =P

Sorry was confused. I meant trust based playing. Like an invite only system.

hmm but how do newcomers get in then..
