Embedding a web browser

by AliGoshne on 07/13/2011 13:55, 8 messages, last message: 10/28/2011 15:22, 1427 views, last view: 05/03/2024 04:38

Hi all,

I want to embed a web browser to render and display websites in my game without exiting the game, like opening my own web site in the game in a frame or something when user clicked on the url.
Any suggestions or ideas are really appreciated.

Thanks,

I'd imagine all it would take is using like a firefox/chrome base running in the background, entering keys as needed, and sending mouse coords converted from floating point to pixels (if the web browser can't handle pixels), then mapping the result of the page to a texture, then drawing the texture in a menu.

You could draw the texture on a cube, but that might be a little low-res or awkward.

Also, Sauer should have a "get where mouse is pointing" command in the scripts or source somewhere, as menus have always supported floating in 3d.

The initial premise here is totally ludicrous .. and yet people replied .. and now (3rd post in) you're already talking about stuff that has absolutey no (true) relevance to the topic.

There's capabilities to get data (read: text/plain) from the web (via http) .. but displaying it is another matter - there's a reason why most software will launch an _independent_ web-browser for real surfing .. if you "just" need to load some news or a list or two then text/plain (pre-formatted or parsed on-the-fly to CubeScript) should work well enough.

In general - this community is about the game-engine, not about strapping an elephant onto the back of an ant, just because it /can/ lift it - it'll be a long time before that ant brings back its find to the burrow .. if you catch my drift ;-P

mmh. interesting.
You (or rather kripken) should've posted more than just the name "qtonium" .. how about the actual link?!
http://code.google.com/p/qtonium/

But - it doesn't really change my opinion - I don't see much sense in this sort of thing for a _game_. Not enough to warrant the additional size in binaries (and release-packages).

Here's a program that may help.
If your looking to EMBED it, look at MeatR0me's post.
This program allows you to capture video, use Facebook, Skype, browse the web, and STAY IN THE GAME.
Check out the video on the front page.
IT IS FREE.
